‘Did You See Those Chairs?’

On another dull morning I scanned the last few colour slides from 1980.

Becky pushing pushchair 10.80 1

In October Becky enjoyed pushing the buggy in Tooting Common.

There was someone in it. That was Sam.

Here is Matthew the following month,

and in December with Sam, who,

on 25th was helped by Michael to open his first Christmas presents,

Derrick and Sam 25.12.80

And, of course, we had a festive tree.

This afternoon we took a trip to New Milton to buy a posting tube for Pauline’s parcel, post it, and take a waistcoat to Johnson’s Cleaners. We began with the tube from the art suppliers. We made up the parcel outside the shop, parked a bit nearer the Post Office, and went our separate ways – Jackie to the cleaners and me to the Post Office.

Garden Chairs

On the way I walked past two garden chairs of the perfect size for me, displayed outside Hand Made New Forest. Following the invitation, I tried them, and found them to be extremely comfortable.

When Jackie met me outside the Post Office a short while later I asked ‘Did you see those chairs?’. ‘I saw them,’ she replied with a broad smile, ‘and I sat in them’. ‘Shall we get a pair?’ was my next unnecessary question. We ordered a couple, of a different colour.

By early evening the weather had cleared enough for us to take drinks in the rose garden, where

Roserie de la Haie

Roserie de la Haie is flourishing;

and the mirror behind Golden Showers happily reflects the similar hued Laura Ford filling the gap between between the two levels of the climber.

This evening we dined on spicy pork with vegetable risotto, followed by profiteroles. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I finished the malbec.

  1. I’m running out of adjectives for you and Jackie’s work and expertise! You two are surely a perfect match. (hard to find these days!)

  2. I guess one of the reasons that humans will keep multiplying is because babies are so darn cute. Who can resist them? Certainly not me. 🙂

  3. So excited! 🙂 I’m also so happy to hear you ordered those chairs in another colour – and the little insight into your easy compatibility………. makes it all worthwhile! xo

  4. You and Jackie make a perfect couple, Derrick. Great minds think alike, eh? I hope you’ll share a photo of you and Jackie relaxing in those new chairs. 🙂

  5. The photos are charming, Derrick. I really like Sam’s smiling face and cute eyelashes. Matthew, Becky and you all look festive, Derrick. Michael doesn’t get shown nor who was walking with Becky? I don’t want to guess wrong!
I love the new chairs and am wondering green, blue or tan? I imagine them matching the neutrals so the colors in the garden “shine” their beauty outward. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Robin, for your close observation. ‘Jessica was also on the walk’ under the picture. Michael is behind the phone chewing picture. The chairs will be pale blue – you were right.

  6. The family photos were wonderful–as usual–but I love the chairs, and even more, how you and Jackie both tried them. I hope they do not take too long to arrive. I’m sure you will both enjoy them in your garden.
I love the mirror, too. It took me a moment to see it. How clever!

  7. Those chairs, whatever the color, will be perfect in your garden. Late afternoon drinks? Those pictures of Sam and his siblings are just wonderful. It looks as though little Sam was dearly loved, which is how it should be for all babies.

  8. I was thinking something really obvious … when we started blogging online (or even before) what was the first purpose we had? To document our lives. I think this is why I like your blog, it is the essence of a blog. You aren’t bogged down by anything but a natural and raw depiction of your days and whilst some may say, but what about this and this, I’d say, the rendering of daily experience is the essence of blogging and for that reason and others, it’s a testiment to our lives and I can imagine in twenty years your grandchildren reading these and it would be incredible for them as if they walked through time. I would have LOVED to do this with my grandparents or my parents so you are giving them the best present anyone could ever give someone aside love which I know you have in droves. Well done. Loved the one of Becky walking away from camera with buggy, reminded me of the Railways Children for some reason!

    1. Thank you very much, Candice. You have stated exactly my reasons for blogging. What started as something for my family has brought me so much unexpected interest
