For most of the day the house resounded with delighted squeaks

as Jackie photographed the various stages of the expert greenhouse assembly by Rob and Ollie from Broomhill Garden Buildings. The Victorian style is in keeping with the conservatory of Mistletoe Cottage next door.

Almost immediately she was inside the structure furnished with a folding chair and the table recently purchased for the purpose from Efford Recycling Centre.

It wasn’t long before the sun emerged for the first time today, and the greenhouse had its own doorstep adornments,

its internal hanging basket of petunias,

and some of the pots for which it was purchased.

I had prepared a set of Streets of London colour slides for scanning, but decided that anything else on this post would be sacrilegious. There is always tomorrow.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s superb sausage casserole, creamy mashed potato, and perfect carrots, cauliflower and runner beans. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Fleurie.

  1. Oh those smiles!! They can’t get any bigger – can they?!! Beautiful. That didn’t take long and Jackie is going to have so many countless hours enjoying it!

  2. Oh, I can imagine. Lovely to see the many happy faces of one Jackie. I especially like the one where she’s trying (unsuccessfully) to hide her joy.

  3. Those smiles are contagious, I too smiled and chuckled all the way through this post. This series reminds me of those you used to love to take of the beautiful young Jackie – though those were much given to capturing the ‘moodiness’ mood of the time and these capture the joyful realisation of a dream……….. Well done Derrick!! <3

  4. There is very little that is better than pottering about in your very own greenhouse, enjoy every minute it’s lovely.

  5. Sausage casserole again? Didn’t you have that yesterday or maybe the day before? Think you shold start looking around for a new chef, sees you’re getting into a rut! :'(

    1. We would have had it three days running had Jackie not frozen the rest. She always makes enough for several goes. And it always matures a second time round. Thank you, Brian

      1. Like most stews, casseroles they always taste better the second day. Sometimes I wonder why I bother eating them when first made’; I know I’m going to enjoy it a damned sight more on the morrow.

  6. Jackie appears suitably thrilled! The Victorian style top is adorable. You have rightly preserved the unity of theme for this post. London streets are not going to go away anywhere.

  7. Jackie’s glee would be so fun to capture and have a short “sound byte” for us to listen to, Derrick. I like how you called her verbal sounds “delighted squeaks!” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
My favorite photo is the sixth one down within this post (counting the header, #7 picture.) It shows how the colors are beautifully designed to be spaced apart. Noting red flowers very evenly spaced. πŸ™‚
