Ten Minutes

Today’s weather was almost all wet, warm, and overcast. Our afternoon began with a trip to Milford on Sea where the excellent Peter at Sears Barbers cut my hair. We then went on a garden centre crawl seeking some boundary stones to hold back the soil around the greenhouse. Eventually we wound up at B & Q in Christchurch where we found, and bought, what we wanted.

Bridge Street

Having passed this rather attractive new housing development for retirees on the corner of Bridge Street, we noticed that the sky was lightening over Mudeford.

Gulls

Consequently we diverted to the harbour where gulls squabbled over a chimney top perch,

and screamed around the boats moored on images of the skies

against a backdrop of dark indigo and pale ochre clouds pierced by rays of a weak sun leaving light blue rents in the cloth.

The boats themselves reflected on their surroundings.

I was not the only photographer grabbing the ten minutes that was all we enjoyed before the light dimmed once more. This gentleman, when I showed him these two pictures, was delighted that I had “got the person in”.

This evening for our dinner Jackie produced meaty cottage pie; colourful carrots, broccoli and green beans; and small new potatoes sautรฉed with onions, leaks, and red peppers. She drank Hoegaarden, and I drank more of the cabernet sauvignon.

  1. The true nature of seagulls, aggressive and noisy. At one of the Jersey beaches, the gulls swoop down and steal food right out of your hand or mouth. I really love the boat photo. And the sky is beautiful as it loses light.

  2. As the artist you are (waiting to see more sketches or paintings), so colorfully described. I adored the birds (as I scrolled down the first picture appeared to be alive with gently fluttering birds…nice error of the eye) and boats. The close up of the boat–right before the gentleman–is a favorite, as is the two you nabbed of the fellow photographer.

      1. Yes, I did notice! It actually looks a lot like our newer apartment buildings for the older of us folks, Pleasing enough in that modern if somewhat everyday way…;) My (everyone else is younger here…) building is a five-plex, built in ’50s, red brick–and it feels truly vintage compared to lots of sleek and fancy places going up like mad in Portland.

  3. Those skies look very ominous, I’ll let you keep them.

When are we going to see a photo of your fresh, tonsorially enhanced noggin, so that WE may judge as to the efficacy of said Peter of Sears?

Or must we continue to take your word for it? ๐Ÿ‘ฟ :bear:

  4. This is such a wonderful post with poetic writing and beautiful photographs! I decided to visit you here after seeing you wherever I go in blogworld. I am glad I did!

  5. What beautiful photos, so pleased you diverted to chase that lighter sky Derrick.. Those harbour photo’s would make beautiful pictures or paintings in themselves..
    Fabulous ten minutes spent..
    And a great day out..
