This morning, Richard, Lee, and Ross from Kitchen Makers arrived on time and began taking apart our old kitchen.

Richard concentrated on the sink area, and on contemplation,

while the younger men chipped off old tiling, dismantled the cupboards, and carried the rubbish outside, ready to take it all away. Everything was cleared up as they went along.

When Richard adopted his contemplative pose concerning the floor, his colleagues claimed that this was his customary position on the job.

Light catcher and Ross

Anyone who has received a Pauline King light catcher will appreciate that she kept her eye on the proceedings.

Soon after midday we left them to it and joined Giles and Jean for lunch at Monsoori Heights in Milford on Sea. My main meal was king prawn vindaloo.  Jackie’s was paneer tika. We shared lemon rice, a plain paratha, and onion bahji. Jackie drank coffee and I drank Kingfisher.

  1. What. A. Mess. But how wonderful it will look when it’s done. Can’t wait to see it. You two must be beside yourselves with excitement.

  2. That’s a lot more neaterer than when I ripped our kitchen out… fewer casualties too, by the look of it. Popping off for a crafty Indian sounds like the right way to do it; I shall mention this civilised approach to Mrs Britain should the subject arise – which, let’s face it, it will.

  3. I suppose it is controlled chaos and mayhem – I just think about all the flying dust and dirt that work is generating…….. Great catch with the rainbow on his heels Derrick – that made me chuckle!

  4. They seem like a well-organized group doing the work. I hope it doesn’t take too long to complete the job. I suspect you may be eating quite a lot of takeout food–fortunately, you seem to have delicious choices nearby.

  5. As always, interesting to see the behind-the-scenes shots. It’s a lot of work and upheaval but it will be great when it’s done!

  6. We replaced our kitchen 4 years ago. It’s nice now but what a headache then. Took too long to complete. Best of luck. Looking forward to the progress pictures and finished product.

  7. Well now, things are speeding along. I’ve lived through a kitchen reno and almost lost my poise more than once. We had a shabby crew who only pretended to listen, then did dumb things in spite of your requests. I spent most evenings cleaning up their messes. It looks like your team is top notch though! How fun to look forward to a new kitchen. Cheers! Boomdee
