Today was another wet one. The New Forest is so waterlogged as to promote empathy for those unfortunates who chose to come here for the Easter holidays.

Lymington Plant Centre has clearly seen better days. Perhaps the daffodils that line Pitmore Road outside it had once come from stock.

Roads and paths were reduced to watercourses; bedraggled horses churned up mud to droop at their hay troughs; cattle grids overflowed.

Armstrong Lane in Brockenhurst was just one flooded thoroughfare.  Trees were reflected in the normally dry terrain on the other side of Burley Road.

Their mirrors joined up with the River Weir and another stream to swell the fast flowing water across the ford.

Jackie took one look at two boys cycling through the torrent  and decided to turn the Modus around and find another route.

She waited whilst I photographed other ambitious drivers,

then drove on the the aptly named Waters Green over which a raucus jackdaw chorus performed for the benefit of soggy ponies, one of whom still sported its curlers.

A fine looking chestnut was occupied clipping a hedge.

This evening we dined once more on Jackie’s splendid lamb biriani with black lentil dhal. I consumed more of the 16 Little Black Pigs.

  1. I think we’ve had it better than you this easter holiday, Derrick. I certainly can’t compete with those waterlogged scenes!

  2. Well it certainly was a wet morning, we still got out on the ponies for a ride on the forest, came back very muddy. Great to see the photo of the old’ Tinleys ‘nursery, it would be nice to see it turned into something useful one day?…. now I am going to take a bet and say that cattle grid is the one at the bottom of the Shirley Holms rd, and the muddy lane is jealous lane….just off to the right of the cattle grid photo in fact? A little lane I don’t recommend driving down, it’s really bad at the moment, if you walked just a little further along you would see the fields and lane is flooded, eeek!

  3. Ours came down as fluffy white stuff this morning … Mistress Spring is full of … erm … let’s go with ‘surprises, at the moment, isn’t she? 😀

      1. Yep … the antibioticals worked like a charm … I’m rather reticent to chew too hard on the left side of my teeth, but I’m sure that’ll pass. 🙂

  4. It is rainy here, too, but not quite so waterlogged. Beautiful photos. The horses in the first set look so miserable, but the others seem content trimming the hedges and nibbling the grass. I like the jackdaws.

  5. Oh my goodness you did get some rain! Here that’s called “liquid sunshine” because everyone is under the assumption that Florida is always sunny.

  6. That is quite a bit of rain, and flooding! It hasn’t been that bad here, not yet. We can get storms where gopher holes spout water like artesian wells.

  7. The great part of rain is it brings such lovely new greens out of all the foliage, Derrick.
I love the ponies and donkeys, whenever you capture them! ❤️
