The Garden Stirs

Did you know that when someone else washes your feet they tickle mercilessly? Well, they do, and this is not funny when you are trying not to jerk your knees.

This afternoon whilst I watched the recorded highlights of the spellbinding Women’s Australian Open Final between Naomi Osaka and Petra Kvitova, Jackie toured the garden with her camera.

She brought me back a pictorial record of the garden stirring. As usual, titles of the pictures are given in the gallery.

This evening we dined on a rack of pork spare ribs; plentiful, well dressed, salad; and tasty new potatoes.

  1. That’s a fine-looking camellia and I love the speckled hellebores – especially the one with the even, clear margins. I’m tempted to tease you for complaining about Jackie’s loving – make that tickling – care, but I suppose you do have a point.

  2. Lovely to see the blooms stirring Derrick. and lovely to see so much colour. Wishing you a peaceful weekend, good to be back in WP and hope it stays mild where you are, you are way in front of us in blooms, though we do have snowdrops and primroses out. The daffs are pushing through, and I have the odd crocus.
Take care, and good job those knees didn’t wobble.. 🙂

  3. Perhaps Jackie could administer her foot care with a scrubbing brush – now that won’t tickle. I think that’s a pretty skirt you are wearing however and wonder why you are hanging onto a roasting pan ……….

    1. I can assure you, Pauline, a scrubbing brush would tickle 🙂 The roasting pan is my laptop tray – trying to take my mind off what was going on. I wondered whether I should have said that the skirt is a cushion 🙂 Many thanks

    1. Thanks very much, Tootlepedal. Ours self seed all over the place and I guess we get some cross-fertilisation. Jackie did prop these up for their portraits 🙂

  4. Thank you, Jackie, for those beautiful flower photos!

Good to hear you are coming along with your recovery, Derrick. Jackie takes very good care of you! 🙂

  5. I am always amazed by how much longer your growing season is than ours is. To this Mainer, it hardly seems as though you have any winter at all. Has it always been this way?

    1. We do normally have clear winters for 3 months. This year has been very different – however, this is the furthest south we’ve ever lived. Thanks very much, Laurie

  6. The Garden and its Master are as busy as ever while the Chronicler tends to his feet with a wash. Yes, it does tickle when someone else washes your feet, and it is extremely touching too. It was a mandatory chore in our culture offered to travellers reaching home from long distances in the bygone centuries. Tides of modernity have washed away all traces of that practice, and with that the residues of deeper affection.

    1. Uma you are just amazing, I always look forward to your comments and wonder what will be your take on the subject.

    1. Going down to about -1 or -2 only for about 4 nights, as an island this is a temperate climate and we don’t get the severe cold of the larger continent. Austria and Germany have suffered severe snowfall and freezing conditions while we bask in winter sunshine!

  7. Tell Jackie thank you SO MUCH for the lovely photos! Her garden flowers and plants bring me joy and warmth on this cold night. 🙂 I do love that little owl, too! 🙂

So nice to have clean feet…just to soak them in warm water feels so good! I don’t like people to touch my feet…I get ticklish and giggly! 😀 I remember years ago when in EVERY shoe store a person would put the shoes on customer’s feet…boy, did I giggle a lot back then! 😮 😛
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  8. So amazing to see all those beautiful specimens flowering in the UK in January! I guess global warming has some good points! 😉
Hope you are managing a little moderate exercise to strengthen that knee in between the tennis? 😉
It was an exciting match i must agree – hoping for similar things from Rafa and the Joker today!

Take care Derrick and thank Jackie for the photo display from me.
