A Significant Birthday

Today was far wetter and more windy that yesterday.

Jackie drove us to Setley Ridge Garden Centre to find a birthday present for Elizabeth. The paths were so pock marked and filled with water that it seemed sensible for my wife to recce the joint before I left the car.

I waited for a reasonable length of time watching rain streaming down the windows, until I though she had been in there long enough to think that we would be able to find something suitable.

I didn’t linger over the outside displays

before entering the internal arrangements of ornaments old and new laid out with the various plants for sale.

We settled on a nicely rusted cast iron garden snail, and also bought a card which we carried off to Elizabeth’s.

Ella had also been informed that this was her grandmother’s special day, because she had brought her mother, Danni, over for lunch.

At one point, Ella, sleeping on the sofa, briefly woke with a start and let out a distressed cry. Danni, simultaneously, on the other side of the room, had banged her head on the sharp corner of a shelf. She herself made no sound but rubbed her head in pain. Had there been some symbiotic communication?

While we were there Elizabeth’s friend Franz phoned her to wish her Happy Birthday from Manchester. She was, of course, able to see him on her mobile device.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s choice cottage pie, crisp carrots and cauliflower, and tender spring greens.

      1. I know of one older couple, where the wife had suffered a stroke. The husband said he had heard his wife’s cry for help in his head, even though she had made no sound. She was in another room.

    1. I fully believe that Danni’s pain could have been felt by her new babe. I used to see something similar in my newborn twins. Many, many times, there would be no sound or anything I could sense, but both babies would startle at the exact same time. They were often in side by side bassinettes at the time. They couldn’t see or touch each other, and they’d just both jump.

      1. I understand that. A bummer, eh? But good advice. Doc had limited me to no more than one beer a day. Of course, I only have about one a month…bummer!??

  1. That is a fascinating place for avid gardeners. While it makes me yearn to have a garden of my own, I doubt if my work schedule will permit me the indulgence.

There are more things about life that we don’t know than those we know or think we know. That telepathic symbiosis infant Ella may have with her mother could be true after all.

  2. Sorry you’re still having wet weather over there. Dry as md sunny and 80 F here. I would like Danni, always bumping into something. I carry a whole box of bandages with me at all times, to fix my mishaps along the way.

  3. Thank you for showing us green growing things. It is most reassuring.
Fascinating that Dani cried after her mother hit her head. And a little spooky.

  4. Happy Birthday to Elizabeth! 🙂
With Ella in attendance it HAD to be THE best birthday ever! 🙂
Love all of the little garden statues and creatures! 🙂
I’m so glad Danni was okay! And, yes, mother and baby do have a very strong connection physically and emotionally. 🙂
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  5. Love the rain photos! After 5 successive days of 35 C maxima and very low humidity they are just what i need at the moment! A pity i can’t let my garden share them. 🙁

Isn’t Ella a little young to drive? 😉

Mother and daughter must be very highly attuned to one another! 🙂

Great to see you make progress – keep up the good work!
