Holly’s Photographs

Sam, Holly, Malachi, and Orlaith set off this morning for North Wales where they will spend a holiday with Louisa, Errol, Jessica, and Imogen.

Holly sent me a batch of photographs she took with her mobile phone over the last few days. I believe the method of transmitting these remarkably clear images is called Airdrop. All I needed to do was work out how to load them into Photos and WordPress. I’m sure I made heavy weather of it.

I’m not sure where and when this portrait of Orlaith was made.

Despite appearances I really didn’t drift off to sleep in conversation with Sam at the meal at The Royal Oak.

Jackie retained ownership of her laptop for a brief period before the takeover by Malachi and Orlaith.

Orlaith got to use it on her own while Malachi gave his violin recital

to which I listened intently.

Malachi was more interested in what was on my camera screen than was his sister.

Having displayed impressive knowledge of Greek mythology during the Blockbusters game, my grandson was delighted with the Folio Society editions of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey to add to his Sherlock Holmes set. He has already read most of one of the Conan Doyle stories. Orlaith’s reading, spelling, and arithmetic ability enabled her to learn the game very quickly.

This afternoon Becky and Ian arrived to stay for a couple of nights. We dined at Lal Quilla. My choice of main meal was prawn Ceylon. We shared special fried rice, a plain paratha, and onion bahjis. Jackie, Ian, and I drank Kingfisher while Becky drank rosé wine. As usual the food was excellent and the service most friendly and efficient. Raj, the manager, was very happy to haul me out of my seat.

  1. Oh, the kids and grandkids bring such joy and energy with them! 🙂 I’m so glad they were able to be with you! 🙂
Your photos capture the love, connection, fun times, and the sharing of life! 🙂 You and Jackie are wonderful grandparents and you are teaching them so much that only grandparents can!
Enjoy your visit with Becky and Ian!
    HUGS!!! 🙂
PS…tonight I fixed grilled salmon, with a hearty greens salad, and baked sweet potatoes. 🙂

  2. PS Thrilled to see a young one learning a stringed instrument! (My grandson is playing the sax, and his great granddad would be pleased since he played in big bands in college–and then ended up a violist!)

  3. I just tried to leave a comment, but it didn’t work. I’m trying again.
Lovely family photos. Are you certain you weren’t asleep in that one? 🙂

  4. It’s clear your grandchildren love being with you and Jackie. Malachi playing the violin with his eyes closed and such a serene expression helps me imagine how beautiful and soothing the music must be. It’s such a blessing to have them all there!

  5. You do look mightily drowsy in the photos and it’s a wonder you didn’t doze off at the moment. Apple’s iOS can make life hell if you try to connect it to an alien ecosystem. At times it’s a pain to figure out the mechanism inside its own world also. Orlaith and Malachi are such idyllic names! Lovely kids, sweet family time.

  6. Does Malachi play the violin because he’s read a lot of Sherlock Holmes stories? That is a stunning photograph of Orlaith by the way.

  7. I can confirm that photo of Orlaith was definitely taken in Perth WA – I’d recognise those traffic lights anywhere!

Having no roadsign attached makes it difficult to be more precise, but i’m guessing South of the River Swan in the inner western suburbs, Willetton maybe? (On the way to the Airport perhaps?) 😉

    Greetings to you both. 🙂

  8. I love that cycling with mother picture. When I was Orlaith’s age I had paper doll animals that looked very like the pictures on that box.

  9. Now that’s a grandson worth having, likes Greek mythology, I’d wanted to have, learn, and play the violin when I was a lad, My mother told me don’t be daft! She couldn’t stop me reading Homer though!

    1. You should have seen his delight when he asked me if I knew anything about Greek mythology and I produced those two books. It was a pleasure to part with them. Hope you are OK, Brian. Thanks very much

      1. Wish my children liked books, they all take after their mother. except Emma she does read and she’s making sure my granddaughters do too.
‘ I love seeing children with a book in their hands and their eyes on the pages.
I feeling somewhat better than you Derrick

  10. Reading to your grandchildren is one of life’s great pleasures. Now if I could just get 2 year old Xander to sit still long enough …
