Please Don’t Mention It

This picture was one of Jackie’s favourites for the competition which didn’t make the final cut. I therefore used it in a card for her birthday tomorrow. Don’t worry, she won’t have an advance viewing because she reads the blog posts first thing in the morning.

After lunch, while Jackie continued planting up her myriad of containers, I dead-headed the roses. This will from now on be a daily necessity.

If anyone notices any I have missed, please don’t mention it.

This evening we dined on smoked haddock fish cakes topped with cheese by the Culinary Queen; piquant cauliflower cheese; Lyonnaise potatoes, soft-centred yet crisp on the outside, with nicely charred onions; and, for added colour, green peas. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank Carenina Gran Reserva Monte Plogar 2011.

  1. You answered my question about Jackie seeing this. I won’t mention it, or any un-deadheadeds. 🙂

  4. Your roses are stunning, Derrick, and so is the black and white photo you have selected for Jackie’s birthday. Happy Birthday to her, and many more, to 120!

  5. Happy birthday to Jackie. I was wondering when the time would come to return to the daily gardening. You both have your work cut out to stay on top of it, but the reward is great.

    1. One year I collected the scented ones, I dried them using the micro-wave, and they were used at a wedding, as eco confetti.

      1. My wife used to collect them and dry them in a broad flat basket and when they were dry she tossed them in a large glass bowl she bought at a junk shop and it made a pretty nice scented decoration and when she was sick of it she tossed them all in the compost.

      1. My sweet Jackie I am very pleased you like this !!

I want you to know that I enjoy the adventures of your family and I wish you the best in your life !!

  7. No roses here yet, my rhododendrons are only just beginning to flower, well one bush at least! Birthday wishes to Mrs K hope it’s a good day for you both.

  8. A very Happy Birthday, Jackie! hope you both enjoy it. 🙂

“If anyone notices any I have missed, please don’t mention it” – Lol ! 😀

Your garden is a blooming wonderland – well done to you both.

  9. To me they all appear perfectly done and decked: Nature’s bounties at their prettiest. To be sure though, the pageant has needed hours of tending and preening by the pair of devoted gardeners.

  10. Ha – I wondered what that title meant. I didn’t see any to mention; you did a good job. : )
Your garden is at it’s peak, I think. I love the abundance: happiness everywhere.
Wishing Jackie a wonderful day and a great year to come!

  11. Such a shame the black and white of the ponies didn’t make the final cut. Jackie must have been very pleased with her birthday card?
