The Biter Bit

After lunch on this overcast and humid day we took a short drive through the forest; our route was up and down

Rhinefield Ornamental Drive,

along which travelled many cyclists,

two of whom, giving me a sense of the biter bit, stopped to photograph

a group of ponies surrounding our car which they licked lasciviously.

We were slightly alarmed at the number of barbecues flaming and smoking on the green near Boldrewood Deer Sanctuary.

Later this afternoon Elizabeth and Frances visited. Struggling with a problematic printer I produced copies of two of yesterday’s photographs for our sister-in-law. The four of us then dined at Faros Greek Restaurant in Milford on Sea where the food and service was as pleasing as on our last visit. I began with Kalamari; my main course was Kleftico; and my dessert galaktoboureko. I can’t speak for the others – after all, I have remembered the name of my sweet – except that Jackie drank a Greek beer and the rest of us shared a bottle of red wine the name of which escapes me.

A staff member volunteered to take this photograph of us all in which perspective is a little unkind.

  1. Is that an area designated for grilling that you’ve shown? Around here, it’s generally not acceptable to just set up shop anywhere; specific areas for grilling or fires are set aside in public spaces. On the other hand, it’s a lovely setting, and I’m sure everyone takes care to keep their fires under control.

  2. The smoke may have helped with the bugs!!! But it sounds as though you had a lovely dinner. I like that dessert myself. As for the picture, it looks pretty good to me!

  3. Whoa! That’s quite a party in the jungle! In a world where everyone is a photographer two times over thanks to mobile phones, a surprising majority remains perspective illiterate.

    1. I was just as ignorant until we came down here. The collars are reflective so the animals can be seen in the dark when they randomly step out in front of you. Thanks very much, Cindy

  4. Ooh pony-lickers! Not people who lick ponies, but ponies who like to lick! 😛 Did they get your car clean?!?! 😉
Looks like a beautiful day out and about, with friends and family, with a delicious meal, and with beautiful smiles! 🙂
I must google your dessert and see what it is!
HUGS for all!!! Even the ponies!!! 🙂

  5. Some of the barbecuers look about as keen on the smoke as i’m sure the deer weren’t!

Poor form sending the scent of searing flesh wafting through a wildlife preserve, eh what?

On a lighter note, that brown pony looks as if he’s parked his carcass upon your bonnet… or is that a trick of perspective?? 😉

That Greek place sounds like a ‘keeper’. 🙂

  6. Your post about the lovely day comes at the perfect time. My friends, who is Greek, is taking me to her favorite Greek Restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Maybe I’ll order something you enjoyed, especially the dessert!

  7. My husband is a foot taller than me so when he photographs me I always look much fatter than I am already and with very short legs. Perspective is important. Notwithstanding the problem with perspective, you all look very cheerful in a nicely spaced airy restaurant. I worry a lot about barbecues and find them irritating at best. I love the photo of the horse’s eye!

  8. Perspective aside, it is obvious that a good time was had by all. I am somewhat concerned about barbeques in the forest. Are there designated clearings, or is it free-for-all?

      1. My pleasure, Derrick. We have an ongoing issue with tourists camping on smaller islands without any concern for wildlife and marine environment, so I was immediately alarmed looking at your photos with all this smoke in your magic forest.
