Ice Cream Delivery

Jackie swept liberally scattered beech nuts from the Rose Garden this morning.

Scoobie kept her company. On the Back Drive he found a fossilised rat which I opted not to photograph.

We have a liberal supply of petunias,

begonias,

and Japanese anemones.

Bees busied themselves gathering pollen, ignoring the fact that some plants remained dog-eared;

and competing for occupation of others.

Some clematises,

fuchsias,

cosmoses, and sweet peas remain in bloom.

Rose Doris Tysteman thrives in the Back Drive border.

Rosa Glauca hips hang over the colourful patio beds.

The hibiscus beside the Brick Path is really flourishing this year.

This afternoon the four of us visited the Beachcomber Café at Barton on Sea.

Gulls hung on the thermals overhead;

crows on the clifftop blinked and pecked at tissues which were eventually shredded;

children wandered;

and a fisherman angled on a breakwater

in view of the Isle of Wight and Christchurch Bay.

This was a day for ice creams.

We had become a little concerned on noticing an elderly woman alone in a wheelchair. After some time a younger woman made her way across the garden with two ice creams. She presented one to the person we then assumed to be her mother, and they sat and enjoyed them together.

After we returned home Ian and I listened to the BBC sport broadcast of the Ashes Test match first day; and watched the second half of the highlights after dinner.

Our dinner consisted of thick pork chops with mustard, brown sugar, and toasted almonds; creamy mashed potato; crisp carrots and broccoli; tender runner beans; and roasted peppers, onions and mushrooms. I drank more of the Garnacha Syrah while the others drank Wairu Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2017.

  1. I wish we’d had an ice cream day. It rained for most of it, no surprise there then!
    I love to cook my pork chops in the same way using French mustard sprinkled with brown sugar, but I leave off the almonds.

    Your garden is looking as lovely as always.

  2. Beautiful. Would you please tell Jackie that she is beautiful, as well. I always think how lovely she looks, but I don’t think I’ve ever told her.

  3. I wonder if you have the same little verse that many of us recite: “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” It looks as though everyone with a treat in hand was too busy licking to scream!

  4. Ice cream? Did somebody say ice cream? The pictures of the two women sharing the experience of eating ice on a sunny summer day warmed the cockles of my heart. Much to love in the photos of your garden and the seagulls wheeling across the sky, one of the joys of my childhood visiting Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

  5. I love that you were concerned about the woman in the wheel chair, glad she was just enjoying the weather while her daughter got her a treat ? Thank you for the snapshot of the Japanese anemones I had never seen them before.

  6. Have I met Scoobie before? Why are these friends so inquisitive of fossilised rodents? Those eagles soaring in the sky would surely love to have a go on ice creams if only it was offered to them.

  7. Great people photos with the ice cream –
    And of course the garden and flowers
    And …. my fav from this post is he begonia – so pretty and fresh

  8. I forgot to mention Scoobie after your last post – what a charming dog. He must be enjoying your garden!

    Looks like a good weekend ahead. Enjoy your garden and days out

  9. Scoobie is a cutie! 🙂
    Jackie is in her element and looks beautiful and happy! 🙂
    I’ve always found Fuchsias to be enchanting!
    YAY for ice cream! 🙂 What is YOUR fav ice cream, Derrick?!
    I’ve been known to bundle up and eat some ice cream outside on a cold night! 😮
    So nice of you to keep watch over that lady in the wheelchair. Glad someone was getting her some ice cream and then they enjoyed their time together!
    HUGS!!! 🙂

      1. Sounds yummy! 🙂

        The latest update from Sarah on her Dad (LordBeariOfBow)…
        Hi, Carolyn,
        Thank you for your email. Dad appreciated it. He hasn’t had the energy to reply this past week. He has taken a turn. His heart is failing. He has not been well.
        Mum, my brother Nathan and I are hoping they can make him comfortable and get him home. To his own bed, to coco and to his online friends in the coming week.
        Thank you for your kind words and caring.
        Dad says hi.
        I will keep in touch
        Cheers
        Sarah

          1. You’re welcome!
            I’m trying to reach everyone (all of his WP friends and commenters) personally.
            But, I, also, put the update in the comment section of his latest post, so I hope those I might miss (or that I don’t know about) will find it.
            I’m very sad about Brian and all that he is going through. 🙁

  10. Super shots of your garden once again Derrick – the white begonias are magnificent. Down here in Oz i have pink ones like yours still in flower from our Summer.

    The gulls in flight and the gannets eating ice cream on the ground are also well taken! 😉

    I was amazed by the apparent focus depth of field in the Bee on Cosmo’s photo – as far as i can tell it appears to ‘b’ about one Bee’s width? 🙂

  11. So many beautiful photos, I can’t even choose a favorite.
    But this is so funny-strange–yesterday, I was at my mom’s. We were sitting outside; she was in a wheelchair. She said she wanted an ice cream cone, and told me that they sold them in the store across the street. So, I left her in the wheelchair because she seemed OK, went across the street, and came back with two ice cream cones. Later, my daughters texted. One was visiting the other, and they went to a dairy farm that sold fresh ice cream. My mom said, “Tell them, it’s the day for ice cream.”

  12. Many thanks for the non-photographic-appearance of the deceased. 🙂 … I did however, get a flash of the Monty Python Dead Parrot sketch when you mentioned it. 😀

  13. I adore the way Jackie takes care of her garden and you generously share beautiful pictures of pretty flowers with us.
    Looks like you thoroughly enjoyed your ice-cream day. Clean blue sky and loved the way you noticed that old lady and her daughter and captured them in the frame .

  14. I agree with Deeksha, that it was so kind of you to worry about the woman using the wheelchair until someone showed up. All the better that the someone was carrying ice cream! Your garden is again gorgeous. No hint that it was ravaged by storm not all that long ago. So much effort is put into every bit of it, that is obvious.
