Cake And Limousine

This morning I scanned another couple of sets of prints from my archives for which I cannot find the negatives.

The first six are from Oliver’s birthday party of 23rd December, 2000, held at Lindum House. Alice sits bemused in her high chair while her gleeful brother, an avid Arsenal fan, admires his football pitch cake.

Emily, Jessica, Sam, Michael, and Louisa also joined the group.

Encouraged by Grannie Jess, the birthday boy gathered his puff to aim for goal before turning it on the candles.

Five months later, on 24th May, 2001, Louisa celebrated her birthday in stretch limousine style

with her friends in Newark. Naturally there was a bar on board. Jessica joined the group for the last shot, before the girls made their royal progress round the town.

Jackie spent most of today clearing beds, planting bulbs, and heavily pruning, Later I cleared up some of the refuse.

When not cocking his head in conversation with his adoptive Mum

Nugget is quite at home in his all day breakfast bowl.

Now, “Where’s Nugget?” (39)

This evening we dined on Jackie’s classic cottage pie; roasted butternut squash and parsnips; with crisp broccoli. The Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden and I finished the Malbec.

  1. I love Oliver’s rosy cheeks! These are terrific photographs…so many wonderful memories. I can’t decide which photo of Nugget would make the best puzzle, Derrick! He is just turning into the chunkiest Nugget!

  2. You gave your family so many wonderful memories Derrick. I love that little snap in the limousine that included Jessica being so fondly embraced by her daughter.

I laughed out loud at this: ‘Nugget is quite at home in his all day breakfast bowl.’ His adopted mum is so good to him 🙂

  3. I love the record of family celebrations, wonderful memories, and lovely to see Jessica with her daughter.
Nugget wasn’t difficult to find tonight, but looking at those photographs I think Nugget photo number three with his all day breakfast would make it to the jigsaw top spot, there’s more detail and colour therefore perfect for a jigsaw. If Nugget needed to be larger or facing the camera he could be superimposed. ?

    1. When he was just a few years older they took him into the training squad. He didn’t last long because he was more interested in playing matches than training. Thanks very much, Tootlepedal

  4. your scans are strong
The girls, they had to have a good time in this long limousine (even if it dates)
I see that Jackie is really good cook, every time I come I ask myself the question; what will it be on the menu?

  5. What precious family and friends! What beautiful smiles! What lovely memories captured in photos! 🙂
Nugget seems to be deep in thought! Derrick, I’m so glad Nugget continues to enjoy his home and is still letting you live there with him and Jackie! Ha! 😉 (wink wink – teasing!) 😀
OOOH! You had some of my fav veggies to eat! But, then I’ve never met a veggie I didn’t like!
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  6. What a great cake! That must have been the first time a boy was encouraged to play with his food. 🙂

Wonderful memories for inclusion in the albums. 🙂

Nugget is getting bigger, and therefore easier to spot in the Where’s Nugget feature, but it is still so enjoyable searching for him and seeing how handsomely he is growing under all that tender care.

  7. I love the football cake (yes, it’s real football, not soccer!). Little nugget is posing, perched on a branch facing left, to the left and close to the top of the photo.
