Under The Weather

Not having yet experienced frost, the nasturtiums still climb the garage door trellis.

The crab apple trees are losing their leaves, revealing their fruit, still eschewed by blackbirds not yet hungry enough to eat them.

The sun was so weak this morning as to be imperceptible in these photographs of the garden views in which autumn colours, especially of Japanese maples, attempted to brighten the gloom.

I, and the garden, felt somewhat under the weather today. As limp and lacklustre as these leaves lying on the gravel, I alternated between reading and dozing on the sofa.

This evening we dined on Hordle Chinese Take Away’s excellent fare. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank sparkling water.

  1. You and me both with feeling under the weather (I’ve a cold). Hope yours clears up soon, Derrick. By the way, I didn’t know Nasturtiums climb… do you train them up the trellis or do they find their own way up it? Ours just trail.

  2. I’m so sorry you are under-the-weather, Derrick! 🙁 Reading and dozing is good medicine. I hope you are over-the-weather soon and feeling so much better! 🙂
Same for the garden…may the sun shine again soon!
And may the sun shine in your heart, always, Derrick!
I really do believe that the bad-weather-days are nature’s way of telling us all to slow down and that it’s okay not to run here-and-there and work so hard…we need some days to just do the quiet-fun-at-home stuff. 🙂
    HUGS to you and Jackie!!!
    TWEETS to Nugget and Muggle!!!

  3. So hope you start to feel better – I so enjoy your posts and photos. The ever changing seasons in your garden – really capture life here on earth – round and round and round – we go always adapting. Thank you !

  4. Your garden is still looking good in Autumn. We had our first hard frost here in Cary North Carolina last week. My garden is limp and burnt several weeks earlier than usual. Hope you are feeling better.

  5. Some days it is good just to rest, Derrick. I had one of those days yesterday. It was a full week here between Lucio cat’s surgery, music and things to do in general. Lucio had four tumors removed and is wearing the cone on his head to keep him away from the stitches. Still waiting for the lab results.
