Precipitation

Yesterday Jackie tidied up the area fronting the garage door trellis. This involved clearing away last year’s plants that were beyond their best-before date, especially the still blooming nasturtiums that should have shrivelled and died months ago. She then added new life to the pots.

Today was one of steady, light, rain. Starting with the Head Gardener’s new planting of perky primulas and pansies

I photographed pellucid precipitation on diverse daffodils;

on fresh tulips;

on other pansies;

on hellebore brollies;

on winsome wallflowers:

on camellia petals;

on slender summer snowflakes;

on pink pelargoniums;

and on a closed clematis Cirrhosa Freckles.

Floral lichen on the back of the Nottingham Castle bench is developing nicely.

This afternoon, Valentine from HSL brought a sample chair,

one of which he tried out for size for each of us. Having taken an order he returned this one to his van and, for the first time in two years, I was able to rise from a seat without using my arms.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s luscious lemon chicken; crisp roast potatoes; and crunchy cauliflower, carrots, Brussels sprouts, with tasty gravy. I drank Carinena El Zumbido Garnacha Syrah 2017, while the Culinary Queen abstained.

  1. Derrick, your gift for sublime photographs of exquisite flora and for welcoming us into your life, always leaving one’s mouth watering with your food and wine choices is exactly the balm of normality that is needed in this surreal and somewhat alarming moment in time. Thank you.

  2. Hell you said, that’s what my voice activated message was but I meant to say pellucid precipitation certainly gives those blooms quite an interesting bloomi’ look.

  3. Those raindrop photos are absolutely magnificent! 🙂 And that’s a very nice chair! I recently found a very good one myself too! 🙂

  4. I bought a new sofa a couple of years ago that was higher and firmer than my previous one. It makes a huge difference to the grace with which we can attain a standing position again 🙂 Your various bits of alliteration are excellent 🙂

  5. Those words are as crisp as the flowers that grace those pictures.
    beyond their best-before dates, perky primulas and pansies, pellucid precipitation…
    You do look majestic in your perch.

  6. There’s nothing like a good chair, especially one that allows for comfortable reading. Getting out with alacrity is a bonus, and one to savor. The flower photos are wonderful. There’s nothing like rain or dew to decorate already beautiful plants.

  7. Just gorgeous Derrick!
    Weirdly, in Southern California, we are getting as much rain daily for a long time as the UK. I love every day of it in our parched land.
    Be safe and take good care Derrick

  8. At Nottingham City Hospital, the physio told me that the way to get up easily was connected with how you start, so remember “Noses over toeses” which does work quite well, although it does quite often depend on the chair.

  9. “Raindrops on Roses” (SoM) – fabulous pictures Derrick.
    No rain for us, we are in a spell of good sunny weather, works well with social distancing.
    I assume that you don’t use the garage to park the car.

  10. I can’t thank you and Jackie enough for posting photos of spring, a reminder there is a good reason for the expression “Hope springs eternal”. Is there a mechanism that helps you rise from the chair, like a pilot’s ejector seat? Or is it just higher than usual making it easier to get out of with “alacrity”? (Great word!)

    1. Just higher than usual, Sue. Although when younger I could get in and out easily I never had chairs high enough. So pleased you enjoy the photos. Thanking you, too, for your appreciation.

  11. Wonderful photos of pellucid precipitation on the flower petals, Derrick. ? You look very comfortable in that chair. I saw above the normal timeframe for deliveries–I hope it doesn’t take too long for it to arrive.

  12. Lovely droplets Derrick. They speak of renewal and refreshing to me. I eagerly await the return of the green and blooming things here…

  13. Beautiful, beautiful flowers! I exclaimed aloud with each picture. And, how wonderful that you have a new chair that will allow you to get up more easily.

  14. So glad Jackie has been getting things planted – I needed a bit of spring today, and your garden is always a treat. I think I liked the 2nd tulip photos the best. Loved your words – “beyond their best-before date” – lol and loved the alliteration. Fun stuff.

    Confused about the chair – is is a special chair that helps you stand, or have your knees gotten so much better?

    1. The chair is simply high enough. I can stand and walk pretty well – just can’t get out of low seats. Thank you for your comments and your concern, Jodie.

  15. Amazing flowers as usual and those chairs look nice and comfy, especially if you say you did not need to use your hands to get up.

      1. Most welcome Derrick. I am enjoying the UK beginning of spring too although I don’t have flowers but only green plants as I now live in a flat in London

  16. How delicious it is to watch the processes in your fine garden. These are some of my very favorite photos of your flowers, Derrick. I long to buy potting soil and flowers and seeds… but we are not allowed to be out shopping except for essentials. Besides which, now thousands of businesses in the US are closing up due to the pandemic…. So this post did me good, that is for certain, and thank you.

  17. I’ve modified just about all the chairs I use so that my bum never gets any lower to the floor than my knees. 🙂 … so congratulations on your chair !!! 😀

    1. That is something that even in my younger days I never had – so ingenious. Especially if you did it rather than Mrs Widds. 🙂 Thanks very much, Widders.
