Final Resting Place

Because they value my opinion I have received a satisfaction survey questionnaire from the bank. I gave them what they deserved.

Early this morning Jackie heavily pruned the Delta’s Sarah fuchsia in the Rose Garden, in preparation for the

hole with which she then made good headway , leaving me to prise out a final layer of clay.

While she was there she picked a crop of apples which she gave a good polish.

We then visited the recycling centre at our booked time and left the bulk of our garden refuse there.

Early this afternoon Becky and Ian arrived with the body of Scooby who had died peacefully at midday, aged 18.

What we had been preparing this morning was his final resting place in our Rose Garden. Becky interred her beloved Jack Russell, and we spent a gently emotional afternoon of tears and reminiscences.

This evening we all dined on tender roast lamb; crisp roast potatoes; vibrant carrots; crunchy cauliflower; stringless runner beans, and meaty gravy. Jackie and Ian drank Hoegaarden while Becky and I finished the Fleurie.

  1. What a loving tribute for Scooby, a well-loved member of the family.

And what did the bank deserve, Derrick? Com’on, tell us what you said…….

    1. I gave them 0/10 and just gave them the facts, emphasising the rudeness of the man who ended the conversation with a terse “I’ll do it for you. Thank you. Bye”, and hanging up. Thanks a lot, GP.

  2. I have cried once again, Derrick and Jackie. Bless dear little Scooby, and Becky and you all for giving him such a wonderful life. He is in a lovely resting place there in your garden. Our condolences to Becky and family.

  3. Poor Scooby. He had a long life and he was loved, but it’s still very sad. You had started me off with a giggle imagining what your valued opinion might be.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear about Scooby. What a sweet puppy face. It is so sad to lose a beloved companion. Virtual hugs to all.

Your first lines about the bank made me laugh. Dry wit indeed.

  5. Sorry about the loss of a beloved pet; it is always very emotional.
After all the aggravation this bank has inflicted upon you, they had the nerve to send you a satisfaction survey?! I hope you have turned it into a “dissatisfaction” survey, Derrick.

      1. I don’t know how it works in the UK, but here satisfaction surveys are processed by computers, and any comments that follow a score below median are discarded. No human ever sees them. If you have anything like the Better Business Bureau we have here, I would lodge a complain. Just a suggestion.

  6. So kind of you and Jackie to offer such a beautiful and peaceful resting place for Scooby. We appreciate the grief felt by families after the passing of a loved one of any species. And I am glad you had the opportunity to express your disgust with that inept and most disgusting bank.

  7. I’m sorry for the loss of Scooby, but thankful he had a good life and that his body has a lovely resting place in your garden as his spirit frolics on the other side. Glad you got to give feedback to the bank.

  8. Oh, I am such a softie and hearing about Scooby brought me to tears. So sad for Becky and Ian. Eighteen is a wonderful age for a dog though. How lovely that they chose you both to be the custodians of his resting place. He will continue to be cherished and remembered.

  9. I’m sitting here crying over Scooby’s death. 🙁 My condolences to all of you, and especially to Becky and Ian. It is always so sad to lose a beloved member of the family. How wonderful that he can rest in peace in your beautiful garden among the roses…and he can be visited often. 🙂
    18 years! What a remarkable life! 🙂

Jackie, your smile is even brighter and more beautiful than those lovely apples! 🙂
What will you do with them? A pie? A salad? ApplePie bread? Baked apples? Apple Jam or Jelly? Apples can go in just about any dish and be happy! 🙂

Glad you got to share your words with The Bank!!!

    HUGS!!! 🙂

  10. First, I’m sorry for the loss of the pup. We had a Jack Russell/chihuahua mix did 14 years and absolutely adored him. It broke our heart when he died and we buried him at my parents as well.

I started your post laughing, though, because of these sentences (which I knew the background of): Because they value my opinion I have received a satisfaction survey questionnaire from the bank. I gave them what they deserved.

  11. Dixie Rose died at 18, too. No matter how long they’re with us, it’s never long enough. I’m glad that Scooby had a long, loved life, and that he now has a secure and beautiful resting place.

As for the bank’s ‘satisfaction survey’ — I could only laugh. I hope there was a place to add your own very creative comments!

  12. What a wonderful resting place for a much-loved, never-to-be-forgotten, canine family member. Such a very poignant day for all of you.
I had a run-in the other day with a government department and then they asked me to do a satisfaction survey. The young lass urged me to give my “constructive criticism”. What’s the point? These automated communication channels are on an unstoppable path. They are getting us ready for when we will be dealing with mechanical robots, not just the robotic systems now in place.

  13. so sorry about Scooby, Derrick. he will be greatly missed.
how delightful to see Jackie so happy with her harvest! great shot! 🙂 🙂

  14. What a sad day ? but I’m sure he had a wonderful life surrounded by people that loved him! And his resting place couldn’t be more perfect!
I hope the bank will take into consideration your feedback!

  15. Gosh that’s been a bit of a tough day – losing an animal is so difficult but pleased you find a great resting place within your garden… of course the “bank will pleased to hear from you” maybe they will award you with a shopping voucher of your choice…as for the apples and the polisher, they look wonderful, pie anyone 🙂

  16. Rest in peace Scooby. I remember my son always saying our compost pit is a Pet Sematary for our doggies. A part of it is the resting place of our dead pets.

  17. Last month I attended an on-line speed awareness course. Afterwards I was invited to complete a questionnaire which I dutifully did.

My favourite question – How long have you been driving?

    a – less than 5 years
    b – 5 to 10 years
    c – 10 to 25 years
    d – over 25 years
    e – I do not drive

Who says the police don’t have a sense of humour!

  18. Pfff … , me vinger is moe van het scrollen! 80 reacties …
* http://www.friedabblog.wordpress.com * Amsterdam, 3 oktober 2020, 2.25 uur …

  19. A lovely goodbye to Scooby and so nice that you chose him such a nice spot in the rose garden. I am thinking the bank was not too happy with the results of the survey they sent you 🙂
