Somewhat Disconcerting

With paintbrush and roller, after replenishing some of yesterday’s filling, Nick brought light into our sitting room.

Particularly evident was how he has brightened the ceiling;

the walls also glow.

Unfortunately, with the windows open, a number of wasps buzzed around our decorator’s ears. This was more than somewhat disconcerting, so we supplied him with a fly swat and a spray can containing gas lethal to these creatures.

I read another sizeable chunk of “Eyeless in Gaza”

Late this afternoon we visited Milford Supplies to purchase a new starter for the strip light in the library, then drove on to catch

the sunset at Mudeford harbour.

Other photographers, including the couple on the bench and the woman watched by her faithful hound, had the same idea.

Gulls, as always, reflected on the the calm water in the fading light.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s spicy lamb jalfrezi and cream coloured haldi rice with which she drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Faugeres.

  1. Nice progress on your remodeling job. The sunset photos are beautiful! (the wasp shot gives me the shivers…I once had a very bad experience) Is your area going to be under the new lockdown that your Boris fellow has imposed?

  2. Nick is working right along and doing a wonderful job! If it wasn’t Covid-y I’d give him a hug of thanks! 🙂 EEK on the wasps! 😮
BTW: Nick’s “Jackson Pollock” coveralls say he works a lot! 😉 It’s like…Do we trust a painter in clean overalls…or a chef with a clean apron?! HA!!! 😉 😛 😉
You know I LOVE your stunningly beautiful sunset photos!!! They bring me joy!!! 🙂
And so good to see that handsome hound AND the busy gulls! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) 🙂

  3. Bill and I painted several rooms at my sister’s last week in Dulux Lexington Park (white with a dash of black base) and even though they had been cream, the change in brightness was astounding. We left all the high gloss enamel areas such as architraves and skirting boards to the professional, who she’ll hire bit by bit as she can afford.
Isn’t that dog gorgeous. The neighbour below us has a beagle. I’m desperate to be asked to baby-sit 🙂

  4. Gorgeous photos! Especially all those sunset photos. It looks like it will be nice to have some brighter ceilings and walls when he’s all done painting. Can’t wait to see what it looks like!

  5. The interiors of the house are under exciting transformation. The wasp entombed in the lamb has paid the price of being unduly irritant. There is no beating the golden light at dusk (and dawn), the patient dog seems to be thinking.

  6. Lucky you to now enjoy a refreshed sitting room! I’d love to do this too, but Jim doesn’t want anyone in the house during Covid. ? Those sunsets are amazing! You’re enjoying some lovely weather. We’ve been in a warmer trend for 4 or 5 days but will go back to cool by the weekend. It’s the shoulder season rollercoaster for us.
A good professional painter is worth their weight in gold. I’m amazed they don’t need to tape anything and don’t splash the paint on everything. That would be me, ha!

    1. Thanks very much, Kelly. Our area has very little incidence of Covid so as long as we are all careful we feel safe. Nick uses masses of dust sheets and does tape e.g. skirting boards and light switches. Before he leaves each day, he vacuums and tidies everything.

      1. The taping is only to protect those surfaces from any spray that might come from the roller. He does not use it for “cutting in” such as getting the straight lines down walls at corners

  7. The sunset pictures exude both warmth and serenity. I too am looking forward to seeing the transformation wrought about by the painting job.

  8. Knapt lekker op . . . Zo als gewoonlijk, geniet ik van elke foto en bewonder jullie ondernemingslust op gevorderde leeftijd en dan beginnen jullie in Engeland ook nog te renoveren … Nou, ik echt niet meer … , moet er niet aan denken!

  9. The images today are superb with some very worthy of framing.
No wasps up here and hopefully no more this year.
I love the beagle, he’s very focused on his owner, no wandering off for him.
