We Haven’t Done Too Badly

On another blustery morning we carried out domestic indoor tasks and I posted https://derrickjknight.com/2021/09/28/a-knights-tale-42-i-find-my-direction/

Later Jackie righted most of the fallen pots; I set up a few more, gathered up more tree twigs, and picked up the mirror which was fortunately undamaged.

The Head Gardener cleared some broken plants and tied up others. I took those that had been ripped off to the compost bins. As can be seen the cosmos still attracts bees. Jackie had laid down the chairs in these pictures before the heavier storm. They will remain like this until the gusts are gone.

If you don’t look too closely we haven’t done too badly. So far.

As the afternoon wore on the skies darkened and the gale built up its momentum. By the time we sat down to enjoy our evening meal, heavy rain beat a tattoo on the kitchen roof, and I would not have been surprised to see one or two of the three little pigs flying overhead propelled by the huffing and puffing of the big bad wolf.

Dinner consisted of Jackie’s spicy pasta arrabbiata and tender runner beans, with which she finished the Rosé and I drank more of the Cotes du Rhone.

  1. I am glad there was not too much damage to your beautiful garden. I am surprised there would be much of any – from photos your yard seems so protected from the elements.

  2. While the pigs flying over chased by the Big Bad Wolf, it is good to know that you and Jackie were cosily ensconced indoors and able to enjoy an excellent meal accompanied by good wine.

  3. You described that storm so well I could feel it. I’m sorry for the damage that was done, but glad it wasn’t worse. So interesting that an essentially “dead” plant is still providing sustenance.

  4. Goodness, if ever there was a testament to the value of deadheading, your header picture must surely be it!
Your garden is a cornucopia of wonder as ever.
So reassuring, particularly when the weather seems uncertain, and somewhat. foreboding.
I remember the winds earlier in the year, turning over your lovely furniture…
glad there was, again, no serious damage to your haven, which is such a constant lift for all. 🙂

  5. I’m glad there wasn’t more damage–and hope tonight’s wind doesn’t cause much more. I certainly hope none of the little pigs you’ve photographed go flying over your garden!
    Dinner sounds delicious–and cozy.

  6. Good job, Jackie and Derrick! 🙂
HA on the little pigs! 😮 😀 I hope the wolf takes a break on the huffin’ and puffin’ today and there is no more damage and “rearranging” in the garden!
Where’s Jackie? Where’s Derrick? They are too busy working to be seen. 🙂
We’ve had stormy weather and rains the past two days…but our winds never get as windy as your winds!
    (((HUGS))) 🙂 <3

  7. I trust you and Jackie have evolved enough preventive mechanisms as may be needed to keep the garden battle-ready against the wild outbreaks of the elements. Perhaps Nature, too, has a plan of its own, and such interventions are necessary for the general equilibrium of the planet.

  8. Like others we were tickled by the one or two airborne piggies. We pictured number 3 hanging on to the barn door for dear life, its chubby frame straight out in the gale force! Thanks for the visual…

  9. Your garden seems to have weathered the storm well and looks nice. I got a chuckle out of your visual lines- one or two of the three little pigs flying overhead propelled by the huffing and puffing of the big bad wolf.

  10. Judging from the photos, it looks as though your garden came through the winds relatively unscathed. The following line is my favorite part of your post:

“By the time we sat down to enjoy our evening meal, heavy rain beat a tattoo on the kitchen roof, and I would not have been surprised to see one or two of the three little pigs flying overhead propelled by the huffing and puffing of the big bad wolf.”
