“Would You Like To Photograph Connor Doing Something In The Bathroom?”

Connor and Josh from Crestwood arrived promptly this morning to carry out the first stage of the final flooring project. We are most fortunate to have enjoyed Connor’s work on all three ground floor jobs.

First the original floorboards were smoothed and swept.

Some of these required screwing down to form a flat surface for

boards carried in by Josh, measured, largely by Connor, and fitted neatly to form a base for the final strips of Karndean Pale Limed Oak textured laminate which have served well in kitchen and sitting room.

Connor in particular is most obliging when it comes to suggesting pictures. In the first of the screwing pictures above, he held the pose for my benefit after he had finished the task. When asked by Josh whether I would like to come and photograph the expert doing something in the bathroom this didn’t seem something I should refuse. What he did was measure, cut, and fit like a glove a template for the boards.

The boards were then nailed flat.

A smooth screed was settled over the concrete floor in the vestibule, and left to dry overnight. As can be seen, Richard’s new door will have to be cut. He had anticipated this possibility. The men will continue tomorrow.

This evening we dined on succulent roast lamb; crisp roast potatoes and parsnips; firm carrots and cauliflower; tender runner beans; and mint sauce, followed by ice cream. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Merlot.

    1. Yes. Josh hadn’t been before but when I asked him if it was OK to photograph him for the blog, he said, with a smile, it was and that Connor had told him that would be what would happen 🙂 Thanks very much, Merril

  1. Is it normal to have electrical plugins so close to the floor? I tend to experience floods. (I don’t necessarily cause them but I definitely get to clean them up and I would probably electrocute myself given the opportunity).

  2. As Merrild and others have said, you certainly do manage to find excellent craftsmen – and Connor seems to have a talent as a “model craftsman!”
I hope you got the right side of your vestibule before the screed was so smoothly laid!

    1. The floors will be finished tomorrow. We have to wait for the plasterer. Then we can have the decorator back – that will be after Christmas. Thanks very much, Bridget

  3. The series of candids capturing the expert craftsmen at work is interesting, humorous and satisfying to watch. The interiors are going to become shiny and new apart from becoming much more comfortable than what they used to be.

  4. You and Jackie can look forward to a cosy and comfortable winter in your refurbished house. I marvel at the speed and expertise of the craftsmen who have undertaken the work on your behalf; judging from the other comments, this is not the only place where such skills are lacking.

  5. Your title made me snort-laugh! 😉 😀
    What wonderful workers…craftsmen, indeed! 🙂
Again, no one can say they didn’t work hard…you have documentation! 😉
    How is your shoulder doing?
    (((HUGS)))

  6. Lamb with mint sauce… I’ve always loved the combination. Always reminds me of my dad, he grew his own mint and I don’t believe they ever bought a jar.

It will be so satisfying when the renovations are complete. Connor and Josh look to be doing a great job fo you.

  7. Derrick, it’s great how they have become so used to your shares here that they are suggesting ideas for photos etc! Excellent skilled work and good luck with the rest of the renovations!

  8. That’s quite a project you have going on there! We hope to have new flooring put in our living room, dining room, entryway, and hallway (also quite a project) … but it will be done (if all goes as planned) while we are in CA for our Christmas & New years holidays. I’ll post before and after… but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we won’t be here for the work in progress. I do not look forward to having to remove the kitchen appliances nor to having all the furniture moved into the garage. Wish us luck! I hope ours goes as smoothly as yours has!!

  9. Good tradesmen are worth their weight in gold! I marvel when I watch them at work. However, I might knit better than many of them … 🙂

    1. Yes. I am not normally in favour of laminate, but many of these originals were broken or replaced with other bits – probably when central heating and such were installed. Thanks very much, msw.
