A Few Flowers

After two days of heavy hosting we relaxed in a slumped heap except for Jackie’s short walk around the garden to pick

a few flowers.

This evening we all dined on yesterday’s left overs. Ian and I enjoyed chicken jalfrezi and pilau rice, while the others chose beef in red wine with mashed potato and vegetables; this was followed by Tess’s delicious Christmas pudding and cream. The contents of some half-empty wine bottles were decanted into glasses and finished.

  1. You deserve a rest and relaxation. “The contents of some half-empty wine bottles were decanted into glasses and finished.” I’m sure they were. ?
I can’t believe you still have so many beautiful flowers in your garden!

  2. The garden is certainly respite after all that heavy hosting! I’m glad you found an excellent place to decant those half-empty bottles, too. ;o) You made it safely to the other side of all the activity! Now all that’s left is the cleaning.

  3. Leftovers are a gift of the gods, particularly when they’re ‘good’ leftovers! There’s nothing better than relaxation after high celebration; rest up, so you’ll be ready for the New Year.

  4. Good morning Derrick … I’m back on a computer, my brother has lent me his Lap-top.. and set up my wordpress account … yep … he’s a computer whiz .. I can use my phone, but it’s so very difficult for my arthritic fingers … and your flower photos look fabulous on this bigger screen ..

  5. A slumped heap is completely understandable after two days of heavy hosting. One day of hosting would be plenty for me. I imagine the short garden walk was therapeutic.

  6. Hi Derrick – I too am just coming up for air after a lot of celebrating and meal preparations. We had a lot of food and plenty of leftovers which we are still enjoying. I’m glad to hear that you didn’t waste any of that wine 🙂

  7. I love it a “slumped heap” – I do a lot of that of late – especially the last couple of days when summer dropped in – with hot sun but also high humidity and very little breezes. Today more overcast but still humid. And then “half empty bottles” sounds glorious…

  8. And now, just by accident, I have found out how this WordPress machine works. I could not get your photos to work as a slide show. Then finally I am told that after opening in Reader I am then to click and reopen and then it all happens and I can find an info icon. Gardens here are having a tough time. Today 20 C and by Friday 38 C My silverbeet wilts and revives like a Jack in the box.

  9. Please tell Jackie her garden flower photos are so lovely! They bring warmth and smiles to me on what is a very cold night…snow is to descend upon us for the next 24 hours.
Her photo of Fuchsia Mrs Popple is my fave! As I am a fuchsia lover and an owl lover! I feel like that photo is just for me (even tho’ it isn’t! HA!!! 😀 I’m claiming it! 😉 )
    (((HUGS))) 🙂

  10. How odd – I could have sworn blind I’d commented here last night!
I love that you finished off the leftover wine from various bottles, a bit like a wine tasting evening!

  11. I’m immensely jealous of your gorgeous garden and winter flowers. We only have brown grass and icy rain here in New England. These photos perked me up! Happy New Year.

  12. Those are beautiful photos, Jackie and Derrick! It is wonderful to see all the colorful blooms. Our world here is snowy and white. Not very deep, but enough to gum up travel.
