Clearing Paths

Before lunch on another very hot day I posted https://derrickjknight.com/2022/06/04/a-knights-tale-136-an-eventful-move/

Jackie and Flo had spent much of yesterday afternoon and, in, Flo’s case, evening, working on weeding and clearing paths. This afternoon I carried much of the remaining refuse to the compost bins; photographed

a few more roses whose names are given in the gallery; and the paths which have been opened up.

Jackie had cleared much of Margery’s and the Cryptomeria Bed on either side of the Phantom Path, including, this morning, trimming the variegated laurel at the corner of the Gazebo Path.

The Heligan Path

and the footpath through the Weeping Birch Bed had been quite overgrown until Flo set to work on them.

The view from the chair beside the birch had been impossible to enjoy because the seat could not be reached.

Ian joined us this afternoon. He and I watched the highlights of the third day of the first Test match between England and New Zealand, then we all enjoyed our dinner of tender roast lamb; crisp roast potatoes; crunchy carrots; firm cauliflower and broccoli and soft green beans with which Jackie and our son-in-law drank Hoegaarden; Becky finished the Sauvignon Blanc and I drank The Black Stump Durif Shiraz 2021

  1. That Flo is some worker as we would say in Maine. (Being a good worker is one of the highest forms of praise in the Franco-American community.) Jackie must be thrilled to have her.

    1. As Jackie has said, she is. The beauty of it is that Flo has been keen on gardening and nature all her life – much encouraged by her Grannie..

    2. Flo is going to make sure you garden is well weeded and sorted out for this summer of lounging around in it…a great incentive to ask her to stay šŸ™‚

  2. A goo job done by all Derrick … during the winter, I am thankful that my courtyard is relatively small and easy to maintain .

  3. The white chair looks like a pleasant spot for sitting in the shade and reading or just taking a little break.

  4. Clearing paths is my least favourite garden task, but your pictures have inspired me to get down to doing so – again šŸ™‚

    1. So true Anne, it seems that everything would rather grow on the paths and not in my carefully prepared flower beds, tho’ it is a rich source of self seeded plants.

  5. That wine sounds enticing, but not a good match for the main course!

If you ever see some Jacobs Creek Double Barrel shiraz, do treat yourself to a bottle, to see what you think of it. Some of the vintage was aged in oak barrels first, then in whisky barrels.

  6. The stones that make up the path through the Weeping Birch Bed are really lovely. I reckon that there’s a lovely b/w picture of them from one angle or another!

  7. YAY for the hardworking Garden Gals! I’m sure Jackie is so happy to have such a great helper like Flo! šŸ™‚ And I’m sure they are both happy to have you documenting their work, Derrick! šŸ™‚
It was fun to spot some of the owls! šŸ™‚
    (((HUGS))) šŸ™‚

  8. So much hard work and extra credit by Flo. I’ve always admired the way Jackie and you have created all the paths are sitting areas in your beautiful garden. The roses are luscious!
