Washing Line

As her parents were getting ready for Becky to drive them to hospital check-up visits for Ellie,

Jackie took the opportunity to enjoy our great-granddaughter who

remained perfectly placid,

when neither strenuously yawning,

nor searching for her fingers – a potential source of nourishment.

With her brightly coloured nappies/diapers she has, of course, given a new meaning to the concept of the washing line.

Later in the morning, Jackie and I took a forest drive.

While Mrs Knight shopped in the Tesco Express at Brockenhurst I had every opportunity, when waiting in the car, to decide whether the animal depicted on the fence was equine or bovine. I was unable to reach a conclusion. Floppy ears on the side panels suggest a donkey; the elegant muzzle suggests a horse; the widespread ears and forward projecting nostrils on the darker cross-beam suggest a cow.

Ian had returned home to Southbourne yesterday, so did not join us for dinner which consisted of succulent roast lamb; crisp Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes; firm cauliflower, carrots, broccoli and Brussels sprouts, with tasty gravy. Jackie drank Caparelli Pinot Grigio 2021; I drank Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017; Becky drank water; Flo and Dillon drank fruit cordial.

  1. Oh, my goodness, Ellie is gorgeous! Look at her precious little face. You guys must be over the moon. Sending lots of love to you all, especially her Mama. I remember those days.

Ugh – the baby clothes drying. How can one tiny person create SO much laundry?

  2. Oh my! Ellie is perfectly adorable. She doesn’t even look like a newborn anymore.
But oh, babies do make tons of laundry!
It sounds like a lovely day. Horse face with donkey ears–a new breed perhaps.

  3. OH MY GOSH! Beautiful Ellie!!! 🙂 ❤️ What a cutie! 🙂 She brings joy-tears to my eyes! 🙂
I love the washing line! 😉

Looks like a happy donkey to me!!! One who maybe drank too much Barossa Valley Shiraz!!! 😉 HA! Just teasing! 🙂
I love finding faces in funny places! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️

  4. Well, I can’t be very observant because I didn’t spotted an animal! So, I went back to look and I see two animals. I see a sheep at the top and somewhere lower down I thought I saw a teddy bear!

Baby Ellie is changing already. She looks so content and relaxed.

  5. So that’s why I can’t find any wine older than 2019. It’s all over in your wine cellar.

I like Ellie’s nappies, so cheerful considering their lot in life. ?

  6. Ellie is adorable, there is nothing like a baby to draw attention. I wondered what the brightly coloured items on the radiator where – I see you said nappies. Are they ones you wash (not disposable).

  7. What sweet pictures of your great grand-daughter! The fence animal is decidedly cubist. I would have guessed a goat, but it could be a several-in-one.

  8. I love her Cornish name, it sounds elven, like something right out of The Lord of the Rings. Little Elowen looks so serene! She is a beautiful child.

I see multiple creatures in the fencing, including an owl. That is an intriguing composition, Derrick.

  9. The colorful drying nappies remind me of the wraps I used to use to hold cloth diapers in place. The animal on the fence could also be a deer – with the elegant muzzle and big ears.

  10. Ellie looks angelic and innocence babified. May the Powers That Be bless her. That picture on the fence could pertain to some wanderer of the Palaeolithic planet.
