WordPress has tested my good nature to the limit today. I have struggled to like other posts or my followers comments; I have failed intermittently to comment on others’ posts; I have been unable until now (mid-afternoon) even to begin a new post.
We began the day with a trip to the pharmacy at Milford on Sea for our flu vaccinations – at least these weren’t problematic – and continued to Ferndene Farm shop for provisions, and on to the forest.
Along Wilverley Road the landscape still looked rather parched,
apart from the banks of trees ahead;
the burnished bracken on the moors flanking Holmsley Passage remained many shades of green and gold.
Jackie speculated that the tree trimming on the road outside Burley was to ensure that visitors on our open-topped tourist routes would not be clouted on this section of their journey.
The post box decoration on Tiptoe Road raised a smile from me when I noticed the spider crawling over the seasonal pumpkin.
After two hours during which I had only reached the second picture above, I gave up and made one more attempt before dinner, and polished off the rest like a dream.
The said dinner consisted of Jackie’s delicious lamb and apricot cobbler: the filling was tender, and the cheese and thyme scone topping, firm; the vegetables were boiled potatoes, firm broccoli and cauliflower, and crunchy carrots. The Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden, I drank Château La Mauberte Bordeaux 2020, and the young parents ate later.
The last two lines, omitted by WP yesterday, were added with much difficulty on 4th.
I’m sorry WP was being such a pain, but I’m glad everything seems to be working now.
That spider on the pumpkin made me smile, too.

That is weird. I’ve had “liked” switch back to “like” on occasions so I go in again and re Like.
That’s happened to me as well. Having been involved in software development, sometimes these minor issues are to do with how the browser rather is interfacing with the host application.

The pop-up window permission is very annoying. Some glitchy results when you try to like a post. It is easier to click like in the Reader, than on the actual post.
I use reader a lot to read, like and comment unless I’ve missed a few other posts by a blogger then I go to the blogger on the Reader page and go from there.

I am so sorry to hear about your problems with wordpress, sometimes it’s just a glitch and re-booting your computer as well as logging out (and back into word press) helps as well. I am glad you got it all sorted it out. AS for the mailbox: Mission accomplished! I smiled.

Sorry you are having trouble with WP, it can be very frustrating. We are having trouble with eBay too. I blame Russian cyber attacks. My grandmother used to blame satellites for changing weather patterns. And, of course, great-grandfather blamed steam powered looms . . .

WordPress can, indeed, be frustrating. I have problems liking comments on the blogs of others, yours included. In many cases, I have to accept “pop-ups” in order to click the like button.

I have to do most operations through the WP reader, making it a it harder in some ways. Hopefully your WP issues were just buggy updates that will be corrected shortly.

Dear Derrick, I share your frustrations – having to click on the WP icon before I can comment every time (and then sometimes told I must log into my account before it will be posted – excuse me!) – and, like some of your readers, end up going to the Reader in order to ‘like’ or leave a comment. I’ve been trying to find the time to do another post on the world championship cycle races in our area (accidentally pressed publish on a draft and had to delete it). Either I’m trying to rush the job or am out of practice with WordPress. It’s not going smoothly for me either.
I’ve been reading your posts first thing with a coffee and my IPad. The latter is so old that it cannot load a current version of WP and consequently I can’t “like” anything from there. Later in the day, in front of the laptop, I haven’t time to backtrack. I thought I’d take this opportunity to let you know I am still here, and still following.

I’m pleased that you managed to paste the links eventually.
It was interesting to note that many do not use the reader routinely, I’m assuming they receive e-mail versions instead.
I have e-mail notifications in a mail account just for WordPress, but even so I can’t bear the inbox to be full of everyone posts, so I deactivated them in settings. I prefer to use the reader and visit everyone’s sites.
I’m glad you both had the flu jabs, I had mine last week and on Thursday I’m booked for my next Covid booster.
I hope that WordPress is less of a problem today. Have you tried using a different browser?

I was happy for about 8 years with WP. The last two years are for the birds. It makes me wonder if they are trying to get rid of the older set like me. Why must technology “advance”?

I love the spider and pumpkin decoration atop the post box. I had issues with WordPress and the “like” feature a few weeks ago but it eventually cleared up. Perhaps, WP released a new version because that is usually when things go amiss.

I have been having the same problem with WordPress. My computer guy husband can’t figure it out. However, I have discovered I only have this problem with my desk computer. On my phone I can like and comment. So now I use my phone for this.

Today’s quirk here is that I can click on the star to indicate I’ve viewed a post but it subtracts a number instead of counting one up. Fortunately, it adds me in when I open the post up to view the contents and click on “Like”. I’m happy for you that you finally got WP to do what you wanted, Derrick.

If you are like me and pay the maximum to post on WordPress – you post lots of photos – then you are like me in that it is difficult to tolerate any of this crap service from them! It frustrates me, too, that you are having difficulties posting because yours is one of the most interesting and waited-for blogs that I follow.

Good to see your posts agin, Derrick, despite your frustrations. I have had many instances of difficulty, and almost did not renew my WP this fall. Then I thought, there is so much writing of mine here I want to keep (I need to first write an save in my docs more often!) and I also want to continue to enjoy countless others. I will keep trying. We will see what develops this year. I might have to migrate elsewhere. But I am hoping to hear your issues are resolved and you can keep on. Best to you and Jackie. I know what my issue is with WP
But it’s where I post my main art – at blogger – that has gone about face! Post one picture and that’s my lot, but then can’t write anything!
That looks very similar to mine, Catherine. What I am doing at the moment is writing the text on my word processor, cutting and pasting it into a WP post page, then adding pictures individually. It is taking a very long time. Thanks for your comments – I hope this is helpful
