‘A Muddy Golden Pond’

This morning I watched recordings of the Women’s rugby World Cup between Scotland and Australia, and between England and France.

Yesterday’s readers will know of my O2 saga. I did not receive the PAC code today, but I did receive two e-mails featuring a survey seeking to know about my satisfaction. Needless to say the scores were minimal, the questions bore no relevance to my leaving, they asked what the purpose of my conversation had been (when I had already detailed it a question or two before) etc., etc.

I made another attempt to transfer photos from my phone to my computer, and failed again so reverted to my tried and tested Canon EOS 5D for the forest drive we took this afternoon.

Our journey began in calm, encouraging, sunshine; gradually the clouds became dark and brooding, large soft raindrops caressed the windscreen, and acorn pistol shots ricocheted from the Modus body.

At the corner of Ringwood Road where overhead trees were reflected in pools along the verges,

another photographer, like me, had disembarked, leaving his Chauffeuse at the wheel, in order to photograph

a string of dripping donkeys

beyond which cows sheltering beneath other trees drew me across the road where

I disturbed a deer which took a good look at me before departing in haste.

As I negotiated the verge to reembark I photographed these acorns and oak leaves floating in ‘a muddy golden pond’ borrowed from https://ivors20.wordpress.com/2022/10/16/golden-pond/

This evening we dined on Jackie’s succulent cottage pie; fried potatoes and onions, crunchy carrots, and tender runner beans, with which she drank Hoegaarden and I drank Terra Calda Puglia Primitivo 2019. Flo and Dillon ate later.

Now for the good news. This post has been published without any glitches just as I had almost forgotten was normal

  1. Another pleasant drive in the country. Is that a Roe Deer, Derrick? I very seldom see deer so I’m a little ignorant of how they differ one from another.

  2. Great title, Derrick! 🙂
    Ivor’s poem was wonderful! 🙂
Your muddy golden pond photo is so artistic! And your reflection photo is so beautiful!
    YAY for the good news!
YAY for cows, donkeys and deer! (Now I’m thinking about Eeyore and Bambi! HA! 🙂 😀 )
    (((HUGS))) ❤️ 🙂

  3. Love the donkeys. I have wanted to use photos from my phone and was very frustrated – that is until my daughter suggested I email them to myself. It works a charm.

  4. I hope there was no damage from the acorn pistol shots. Thank goodness for the tried and tested Cannon EOS. I like the layers of sweet donkeys leading you to cows, then to the deer.

      1. I am going to spend the kid’s inheritance on Puglia Primitivo, I swear.

I am webmaster for our local U3A, and part of it is ‘controlled’ by our old friend WordPress. This easily explains the increase in grey hair and facial wrinkles!

  5. I wonder if I could be glitch free with my wordpress account… I did kind of manage something the other day but it had to with linking Flickr and it wouldn’t completely play the game!

  6. I’m glad you were able to write without difficulty, Derrick. Such a pity you’ve swapped one frustration for another.
One day soon this nightmare will be over, your new site will be up and running, no more problems with adding text, you’ll be able to upload your own photographs (resized of course), the problems with O2 and the Android/Mac recognition battle will be a thing of the past. Now doesn’t that sound idyllic? ?

  7. Congratulations on a glitch-free post, Derrick. I’m so glad you hung in there, but what a trying time it’s been. All of your animal pics are inviting, but those donkeys melt my heart

  8. I am sorry the O2 saga is still continuing, Derrick. Those surveys never adequately address the issues.

The forest drives are always a pleasure! There should be more pannage for those growing Gloucester Old Spots after the wind and rain. The donkeys are adorable. It won’t be long before the rains turn cold. These mild October days are special.

  9. That donkey with the brown ears and brown spots under his eyes is adorable! You got a great shot of him – dripping and a little forlorn looking. Gotta love him!
