What Season?

This afternoon I accompanied my camera on a walk around the garden.

We have a number of brightly blooming begonias;

of different dahlias;

cow parsley, under the impression that the season is spring;

Summer Wine believing its period prevails;

chrysanthemums confident that it is now their time;

roses like this small pink patio example,

white Winchester Cathedral,

shy Shropshire Lad,

and hollyhocks, all uncertain;

ubiquitous fuchsias, erigerons,

and bidens;

clinging clusters of clematis;

golden Weeping Birch leaves poised to fall – all enjoying this warm shirtsleeves afternoon.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s lemon and herb chicken, wholesome savoury rice, and tender green beans with which she drank Hoegaarden and I drank Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021.

  1. It was good of your camera to take you for a stroll. Beautiful photos and amusing comments. So many beautiful photos, but the cow parsley especially caught my eye.

  2. Yes, I do believe many plants don’t know what to make of the weather – so they just go and bloom – what the heck, eh?!

  3. Such gorgeous flowers that are still smiling, even with the seasons in change. 🙂
    That last photos is so beautiful…Nature’s Drapery! 🙂
    We have autumns where it is so pleasant the leaves don’t know what color to be or what to do when.

    ?❤️?? ??

  4. I love seeing the seasons overlap. When those overlapping seasons contain such a variety of flowers as yours do, it makes for quite a stunning display. Thanks for taking the camera for a stroll, and sharing the results with us.

  5. I’m in love with that first photo. Just goregous. And the weeping birch thingie–never seen that before! And the fall-colored chrysanthemum.

  6. It is interesting to see the variety of flowers still blooming in your garden at a time when many are already lamenting the loss of theirs as the weather cools. Your garden must be fairly sheltered – perhaps an advantage of having trees? Even though our winters are much milder by comparison, our trees mostly protect our garden from frost damage.

  7. I’m reminded of the line from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, “But thy eternal summer shall not fade….” Beautiful closing with the golden weeping birch.

  8. Thank you for showing me your garden. You and Jackie must be enjoying the lovely moments spent there. Is there a story behind the name Weeping Willow?

  9. It looks beautifully autumnal there, derrick and Jackie, and the flowers still colorful! We are forecast to have two more good days here, then into the rain.

  10. You Fall flower collage is beautiful. We have a few azaleas that try to bloom in the fall, but don’t last very long. We had our first light frost two nights ago. They nipped my geraniums but did not kill them.

  11. Yes, I was thinking the same as Brian, what will happen when the winds and rain come? It seems as though you’re having an extended summer/warm dry Autumn like I am at my home. I am enjoying it so much. Today is our last day, however. Forecasters show rain every day from here on out. I will try to get as many leaves up today as I can, before the rains soak them and stick them to the ground.
