Garden Visitors

Regular readers will know that Elizabeth’s friends, Pauline and Jo were unable to reach us on a recent planned visit, because of a traffic problem on the M27. This morning they made up for that.

My sister took the mother and daughter on a tour of the garden.

We then enjoyed a convivial conversation, coffee and pastries on the patio. Elizabeth displayed, on her mobile phone, a photograph of her grandson and therefore my great nephew Jasper, on his first day at school.

Her friends then moved on to the Garden Albums I had created as a before and after record of our first two years here.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s superb beef, onion, and mushroom pie; sublime gravy; sautéed potatoes; crunchy carrots and cauliflower; and tender cabbage. The Culinary Queen drank her customary Hoegaarden, while Elizabeth and I drank Patrick Chodot Brouilly 2016

  3. I am struck by a couple of coincidences that stood out in this post Derrick. Your friends sharing the same names as myself and my daughter, the two women who look so strikingly alike though not related in the second montage……… Also the focus on the hands are so striking – mother and daughter have so often similar poses. Hands are beautiful and I love seeing how you have made them the focus today. Just beautiful!

  6. How wonderful to share your garden, your photos, your food and your love with friends! What a beautiful day! I don’t know if you did it on purpose…but the photos focused on hands are so lovely! Women’s hands work so hard and are so beautiful, at any age! Years ago, I wrote a poem about my mother’s hands.

  8. Convivial conversation, coffee and pastries on the patio… constitute the key to the treasures of life. If only the Pharaohs knew that, they would have cultivated grandiose garden rather than pylons of pyramids.
