It is almost ten years since I made any drawings. Whilst listening to the third day’s play of the first 2019 Ashes Test between England and Australia I produced
this portrait of Nugget to send to my granddaughter Imogen.
While we enjoyed our drinks on the patio
a bee molested a marigold
and Nugget crowed over a cockerel.
This evening we dined on minty lamb burgers; roast parsnips and potatoes including sweet ones; crunchy carrots, and tender green beans, with which Jackie drank Blue Moon and I drank Tesco’s finest Saint-Chinian Languedoc-Roussilon 2016.
Lovely drawing of the bird.
Thank you very much, Byung
What a beautiful drawing!!!
Thank you very much, Sofia
Oh, how sweet! This little friend of yours inspired you to pick up your drawing tools. It’s a beautiful picture – I love the posture – looking back over his shoulder. Imogen will love it. I love the pink and orange flowers together. And I had to look up “cockerel.”
Many thanks, Jodie. Do you call it a rooster?
Yes! Rooster is the word.
Glad you had a nice day Derrick.
Glad you had a nice day Derrick.
Thanks very much, Gary
Wonderful drawing of our friend Nugget, Derrick! Imogen will love it. In the photograph, Nugget looks even more “Nuggety.” 🙂
Many thanks, Jill
So very lovely, Derrick!
Thank you very much, Laurie
Such a good drawing! The real Nugget perched atop the cockerel is looking a little (ahem) rotund…….
I was struck by his rotundity as well!
🙂 It must be all the insects Jackie disturbs
🙂
HA! When I looked at him, I was thinking the same thing! Guess that’s what a diet of bugs will get a bird! 😉 😀
🙂
Thanks very much, Pauline. Puffed up with pride
I like the portrait of nugget. The face is quite expressive.
Thank you very much, Liz
You’re welcome!
Excellent work sir.
Thank you very much, Gary
Very beautiful drawing
Thanks very much, More
You’re welcome my friend blessings to you
The test seems to be nicely balanced.
Thanks a lot, Tootlepedal. Slipping away from us, I think
More drawings please!
Thanks very much, Sheree.
Wonderful!
Thanks very much, Michelle
You’re most welcome, Derrick! 🙂
Beautiful drawing.
Thank you very much, Elisabet
You know what, Derrick, Nugget was an ardent gardener in his previous life. That is a marvellous portrait of your tiny friend who has adopted your garden.
Thank you very much, Uma. Who knows?
Just lovely. A shame you don’t do more.
Thanks very much, Judy. Perhaps I will
Very artistic drawing my friend, a man of many talents I think.
Thanks very much, Ian. Cheers
Oh, I love your drawing of Little Nugget! Beautiful, Derrick! PLEASE draw more often!
Imogen will treasure your drawing always! 🙂
Hmm…birds and bees…and “molesting”…your garden is full of activity! 😉 😀
HUGS to all!!! 🙂
Thanks very much, Carolyn X
A very nice interpretation of the third member of your household – don’t forget to sign it before passing it on to Imogen!
I imagine you rather enjoyed the cricket and time in the garden! 🙂
I suspect Nugget’s rotundity is more down to the angle of perspective than any relative similarity to your legendary eating capacity. 😉
🙂 Thanks very much, Bob. Nugget eschewed the mealworms Jackie offered him yesterday
Maybe he was full after all? I imagine he’s usually up with the birds. 😉
🙂
Wow – I thought mealworms would be a huge treat.
So did we – maybe he only likes live food
That’s a thought.
What a lovely sketch Derrick!
Thank you very much, Arlene
Your drawing of Nugget is perfect, Derrick. You should get back into it!
I haven’t had parsnips in a long time. Could Jackie be so kind as to tell me how she prepares them? I used to eat them raw as a kid, like a carrot.
They can be roasted with potatoes – in which case the potatoes should be par-boiled first because the parsnips are softer – straight from the Culinary Queen. Thanks very much, GP
Thank you.
You are quite talented, Derrick. Nugget has quite an expressive face in your portrait.
Thank you very much, Merril
You’re most welcome.
I hope you won’t wait so long before picking up your artist’s pencils again, Derrick 🙂
Very many thanks, Sandra. It won’t be for want of encouragement
Thanks for giving me a smile for the day.
🙂 and thank you very much, Sherry
What a lovely drawing of little nugget. You should take up this hobby again, especially given your obvious talent!
Many thanks, Sue. It has lost out to photography in recent years, but I woke up thinking I’d like to do this one.
And long may it continue. One day your precious children and grandchildren will be doing just as you have by looking back at old pictures including your drawings, and talking about you with love, just as you’ve done lately.
🙂 X
You captured something about the look in the bird’s eye that really does reflect Nugget’s charm.
Thank you so much, Lisa
“Almost ten years of the last drawing,” you say. Although your talent remains unchanged.
Good job.
Very many thanks, Walter
Your drawing of Nugget is wonderful. I love the colors and the lines. Perhaps you should draw more?
Perhaps. Thanks very much, JoAnna
That is a beautiful drawing of Nugget, Derrick!
🙂 Many thanks, Lavinia
She will treasure the drawing and the stories about nugget. What a cute little friend.
Thanks very much, Flower
You got the essence of the wee lad perfectly. 😀 … the thought just occurred to me, is he a lad or a lass? Can you tell?
Thanks very much, Widders. No idea – but given that robins are viciously territorial, I guess we’ll see what happens if ‘he’ is challenged.
I didn’t know you were an artist, Derrick; quite a multitalented man! The drawing expresses Nugget’s character perfectly.
Very many thanks, Dolly. I have featured a few drawings occasionally. Before we met on here, I think
Indeed, before my entrance into the blogosphere. I am very impressed and am looking forward to see more, Derrick. Now the pure artistic impact of your photographs makes even more sense to me.
🙂
Every garden needs a robin. 🙂
I’ve eaten freeze-dried mealworms – they look like they should taste of Marmite but just taste like dust. They will go in Winter when food is short.
Chilli mealworms and mealworms in chocolate are good, but not at the top of my list…
So even hot mealworms are not so hot. Thanks very much, Quercus
They don’t make the top twenty of my favourite sandwich fillings.
I have never been able to draw. That picture of nugget is a real gem. Better than a photograph.
Lovely comment, Paol. Thanks very much
You are a very talented artist, Derrick. Your portrait of Nugget is charming!
Thank you very much, Clare
Oh my! So much talent 😊 I guess Nugget is pleased with his portrait 😉😊
Thank you very much, Ribana
I won’t repeat what everyone has said, but I’m thinking it. 😉
🙂 Thank you very much, Crystal
Derrick this is absolutely gorgeous. You are a very talented man.
Thank you very much, Andrew
What a beautiful illustration. Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes,
Takami
Thank you very much, Takami
You are very talented!
Thank you very much Micheline – for this and for the big catch up.
Imogen is a beautiful name, I’m sure she’s lovely too 🙂 How nice that you picked up on an old hobby 👍 Much like me, picking up on my suspended blog ☺️
Thank you very much, Bipasha. She is, indeed
Adorable🙂
Thanks very much, Anita
You are a man of many talents, Derrick. This is lovely.
Thank you very much, Alys
