Today the gloomy gales are back.
Headlights were the order of the day, even at 3.00 p.m. when we arrived at an almost deserted Mudeford Quay, where I brightened none of my photographs, in order that readers could see what we saw.
My specs and camera lens dripping with fat raindrops; coat soaked by salty sea spray; legs braced akimbo in an effort to stay upright, I had great difficulty in focussing on anything.
Distant hardy sailboarders, one dog walker;
a lad and his Dad trying at angling;
windswept women straining to steady buggies;
even a solitary gull out of its element, struggled against the gusts,
although some of the birds took to the air in search of sustenance, while crows remained on the car park tarmac.
Networks of glistening roots lay poised to trip the unwary.
This evening we dined on Jackie’s spicy penne Bolognaise and Cook’s choice crumble crusted macaroni cheese furnished by Ian, with which Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Malbec.
Your very first picture is extremely atmospheric…very nice, well done!!
Thank you so much, John
Brrr!
Cheers, Sherry

But it will not dampen my spirits..

Also you didn’t appear in the reader I came via the email link.. Perhaps a word with those Happy WP engineers in order.. <3
I’ve never yet been made happy by those engineers. Please see this PS from SueW’s recent post: PS. Attention Friends of Derrick Knight –
Derrick’s site has moved to a self-hosted Website. It is hoped that all followers have been migrated, however, the site is experiencing a few teething problems, one of which is Derrick’s posts are not showing up on our readers. Please visit http://derrickjknight.com where you will be asked to log in with your WordPress details. Hopefully, these early problems will be ironed out when Derrick’s technical team return after the Christmas/New Year break.
A wild weather day there, Derrick and Jackie! We had that here last week. The exposed roots snaking along the well worn path make an interesting photo. I call those kind of roots “tripwood”.
A great word for them, Lavinia. Thanks very much from us both
Great photos, Derrick, you did a fine job of braving the gales for great photos! I am amazed though that the women have babies in buggies, covered by plastic. Wow!
Thanks very much, John
Sounds like the perfect meal for such a blustery, rain-swept day. Very atmospheric photos.
Thank you very much, Pat
The gull seems to have fared the best in the photogenic pose department.
Thanks very much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
What a brave family! A tad warmer in Spain…Here’s to Spring. A very happy, healthy New Year. Cheers.
Thanks very much, Joy. Your good wishes reciprocated
Gusty gales indeed–and well-photographed. The young man fishing doesn’t seem to be minding the weather at all.
He wasn’t. And pleased to have his photograph taken. Thanks very much, Merril
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Wow .. cold and windy weather your way today Derrick … I’ve logged in here on your site, hopefully, your post will appear in my reader tomorrow …
I hope so, Ivor. Thanks very much
I’d say there was one hardy photographer out in the weather, too. I’m sure it builds character and balance as you are being careful.
Thank you very much, JoAnna
What a hearty bunch to be out in the murk and rain. But I suppose if you were taken out in such weather as a baby, then it wouldn’t faze you as an adult.
Thank you very much, Laurie. That fisher boy certainly wasn’t fazed.
I wonder why you would take your baby out in such weather. What if a strong gust pulled the buggy right out of your hands and tossed it away, baby strapped inside? Doesn’t bear thinking about too hard.
It doesn’t, Gwen. Thanks very much
Great moody weathery photos! The brave were out and about on such a blustery day! I imagine Winnie the Pooh was out and about, too. 😉 😀
(((HUGS))) 🙂
PS…
Owl: Am I correct in assuming it is a rather blustery day outside?
PIglet: Yes sir, Owl, it’s a very, very blustery day, outside.
Winnie the Pooh: Oh, yes, that reminds me, Happy Windsday Owl! 😀
Thank you so much, Carolyn X
I love Carolyn’s Happy Windsday!
It was a gloomy wet day here too, but those coastal gales of yours hadn’t quite reached us – today they’ve arrived.
Joshua cleaned my car on Monday so I refused to go anywhere, it’s staying in my garage until it stops raining!
I got the messages from James, it was nice of him to copy me in.
Thanks very much, Sue. James is a good man, and Carolyn is great at wordplay
Spicy bolognaise sounds perfect for the weather. Dog walkers don’t often have a choice when it comes to walks in the wet. Some dogs are very insistent.
I’ve often thought that about hardy dog walkers, LL/PS. Thanks very much
A wet and moody day beautifully captured!
Thank you very much, Ribana
I have always considered angling to be pointless, especially so in such weather.
Dead boring, Andrew. Thanks very much, Derrick.
Yukky weather!
Thank you very much, Kim
there is a similar but totally different weather pattern “down here” the tail end of a cyclone that is still turning our summer into something quite different – and it’s way too gloomy, damp and now even a little cold.
Thanks very much, Catherine
lovely photos of your cold, wet day!
Thank you very much, Aletta
