I published: https://derrickjknight.com/2023/04/01/droll-tales-18/

This afternoon I watched the Women’s Six Nations rugby matches between France and Ireland, and between Scotland and Wales.

For dinner this evening the Culinary Queen produced succulent roast pork with crisp crackling and apple sauce; a trio of roasted root veg in the form of potatoes, kumara, and parsnips; crunchy carrots; firm cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, with meaty gravy. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Fleurie.

  1. It sounds like a good day. I did have to look up kumara; that was another new one for me. I was greatly surprised to learn it refers to one of my favorite foods. I do a nice sweet potato, onion, and spinach sauté that’s quite good.

    1. Jackie likes the sound of your dish, Linda. “With nice chopped garlic in it that would be nice”. Thank you very much

      1. It does include minced garlic and onion, as well as turmeric, corniander, and cumin. Saute garlic/onion, add spices, then 1/2 c. broth. Add cubed sweet potato, cook until tender, adding more broth if needed. Add fresh spinach until wilted, then a splash of fresh lemon juice. Salt/pepper to taste. Jackie’s a good enough cook that should be enough of a recipe for her.

    1. Firstly because if I click on them for enlargement I get the message Nothing Here; secondly because I can’t produce galleries; thirdly because I can’t give them a header unless I do. Above all that is the only way I can get some of the pictures back. Thanks very much, Luanne

    1. Aren’t they just? Jackie asked me how they would fare against my club teams. I said they would thrash us. Thanks very much, John

  2. Just reading the deliciousness that CQ Jackie chefs always makes me smile! Yum!
Conversion, Publication, Rugby, and Dining-Deliciously sounds like a great day!

    1. We can’t actually discover where they come from, but apparently we don’t call them yams, and I get tired of writing “two kinds of potato, one sweet” or variations of it 🙂 Thanks very much, Merril

  3. I enjoyed your “why did the donkey cross the road” article Derrick. The Montague Arms is definitely a splendid looking building, and I was fascinated by the miniature pumpkins

  4. That pork roast sounded like the way my mom made it. I can almost taste it!! I wonder if I can duplicate it….

    1. First rub salt in skin; then roast whole joint long and slow in tin foil; finally a quick blast without the foil. Good luck

  5. Oh, your last night’s meal sounds just perfect.

I love charity shops, I’ve just noticed a new antique/junk shop has opened in Otley. I was down there too early, but I’ll definitely go back.
Sorry, I should have left the last remarks on the correct post.

  6. I read Why Did The Donkey Cross The Road and had a gush of déjà vu, especially when I came to the point where the donkeys cross the road catatonically. I have apparently read the post before, and it seems WP is truncating the previous comments during conversion to blocks.
