Past Caring

When I select a title for a post I always check to ensure that I have not used it before. Although I sometimes miss one, I was horrified to find when checking yesterday’s “Garden Delights”, to discover two entitled “The Garden Of Delights” each allegedly of the same post with versions published five years apart.

My original, supposedly of 2013, contained just a few pictures; the second, edited by Peacocks, none. The original had no comments, which would not have been that unusual at that time. The 2018 version received quite a lot.

With much trepidation and head scratching I set about trying to discover what should have been included. Fortunately most of these were in my iMac photo files – not all in the expected location.

The tags on the 2013 version all relate to a film or films I watched in France, and bear no relationship to the garden of delights. I scoured the posts from my French visits, to no avail. I can only imagine that two posts from 2013 have been fused. It was only while drafting this that I thought to try Wayback. I tried it with the correct version’s URL – that is there, but I had no other lead.

Having spent a total of 4 to 5 hours on this, either side of lunch, I took drastic action. I moved all the comments from 2018 to the 2013 version, put the 2018 version in the bin, and cut my losses. This may have been the wrong way round, but I am now past caring.

A few days ago I finished reading

and have periodically worked on the review of his Italian classic in recent days, holding it for the next rainy day and publishing it this afternoon.

This evening we all dined on Jackie’s spicy pasta arrabbiata, with which she drank Hoegaarden and I drank Giulio Pasotti Bardolino 2021.

  1. You deserve a medal, Derrick. My goodness WordPress has made your life challenging. Now I’m off to find out what “Wayback” is. I’m intrigued.

  2. I am impressed, and I love your t-shirt. πŸ™‚

A little while ago, my photos disappeared from my post from today (my Monday Musings), then they came back, but someone told me they can’t access it. WP seems full of gremlins!

    1. Thank you so much, Merril. I console myself with the thought that it is a wonder it works at all

  3. Great T shirt and photo! This is your blog, so you can do whatever you want. I don’t think there is a wrong way in the case of the two posts. I’d probably have let it go after an hour. Again, your perseverance amazes me. I hope you have a lovely evening.

  4. I admire your hard work and stick-to-it-ness. You’ve accomplished so much on your WP blog and it has to be frustrating at times. WP is not always cooperative.
Love the t-shirt and your smile! Yes, “keep calm and carry on” (or carrion…HA!) is always good advice! Jackie’s delicious meal sounds like the perfect reward!
    (((HUGS)))
    PS…
Q: Why doesn’t a vulture eat the in-flight airline meal?
    A: It eats its carrion.

  5. It’s not as bad as you think it is. Take me for example, I am answering in a comment and without scrolling up I wouldn’t remember the title of this post. But that’s just me, getting old(er) I suppose.

  6. I don’t know what to say – I was thinking congratulations from diligently recovering – but then I too never care if I lose something. A few weeks ago I was looking though my memory sticks, gave up looking for a certain piece of art “photo” thinking it doesn’t matter…

  7. Doing what you did takes a lot of time and concentration, Derrick, good job. Before I use a title, I always use the search box in the Admin area. I’ve found duplicate titles and have deleted posts so that there is just one post with that title. It takes more effort to run a blog than some folks think!

  8. I am sure you are often tempted to give up completely on your editing and reposting marathon, Derrick! I wouldn’t blame you if you did! However, your posts are so full of interest and must be such a fund of memories for you and Jackie that you must carry on to the bitter end! What a relief it will be when you get there πŸ˜€

  9. I so relate to the work you put into your blog reclamation Derrick… 4 to 5 hours.. Wow…. A little like me yesterday spent all afternoon editing and uploading my video to my computer to then discover I had left a huge gap in it and a text card not used.. LOL…. So I had to upload the whole thing to the video editor again to correct… And the music error at the end I made when I uploaded again..
    I too thought … Past Caring! LoL… πŸ™‚ <3 ????????

  10. I love the tshirt. I have a love affair with hawks and enjoy how many thrive around here. Lots of trees, dead and alive, lots of tall poles, lots of open space to hunt little critters.

  11. Curating is such a hassle sometimes, especially a large volume as yours; you’ve gone through well. The T-shirt, the words, and your expression on the face look healthy.

    1. Yes – it is fun looking at these older versions of it. Thank you very much, Susan
