Baby Species

On this morning of largely overcast skies and warmth to which we have not recently been accustomed, I carried out dead heading and the easier weeding whilst Martin occupied himself with

the heavier clearance work in the Rose Garden

and cutting the grass.

After lunch Becky gave Ellie one of her regular walks round the garden.

Later, Jackie and I took a forest drive.

Beside Holmsley Walk Campsite we spotted two foal colts somewhat younger than our great-granddaughter.

The first of these, still clinging to his mother, grappled with the problem of pesky flies;

the second, a more recent occupant of the womb, slept through our visit. The last two images in this gallery are by Jackie.

At Norley Wood we observed both roadside pink may blossom and rich golden moorland gorse.

King Charles III, his mask having slipped a bit, still occupies his celebrity seat in Robert Gill’s Everton Road garden post his coronation day.

This evening we all dined on Red Chilli’s excellent takeaway fare. My main course was prawn Madras; Becky’s, vegetable curry; Dillon’s, chicken dhansak; Flo’s, chicken pasanda; Jackie’s, chicken saag. Mushroom rice, pilau rice, special fried rice, peshwari naan, and panir tikka were shared. Jackie and I both drank more of the Zesty.

  1. Beautiful garden and great shots of the ponies. That little one is really out! They don’t seem concerned at all that you were there.
    Dinner sounds delicious.

    1. Thanks very much, Merril. The grey gave me a good stare and nudged closer, still chomping the grass

  2. The garden is really shaping up, guys, looking great! I love the sleeping pony, so cute! And, another delicious takeaway dinner, yum! We call Takeaway a Carryout. Same thing just a bit different. ????

  3. Beautiful photos, Derrick and Jackie!!
Great work being done in the garden…and the trees, flowers, and plants smile because of it.
Won’t be long and Ellie will want to help in the garden.
Aw, those sweet little foals! But, darn those pesky pesty flies…they can wear a fellow out!
Sleeping babies of any species give moms a break! Ha!
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  4. It looks like the youngest foal will need every single minute of his sleep!

Or, can horses be born prematurely, and then, likle humans, they sleep away more or less every minute of the period when they should by rights have been in he womb still ?

  5. I so enjoy the foal photos, especially Jackie’s sleeping baby and gray mother. Baby strollers look easier to maneuver than when I had my babies.

  6. Those foals are so gorgeous, and the mothers are quite lovely too. I can see why neither of you want to miss an afternoon drive.

  7. I love the garden and forest photos, Derrick and Jackie. Both foals and young children can sleep so soundly! Little Ellie looks like she is growing fast and will be walking on her own soon.

  8. Love that Ellie gets regular walks in your garden. What a gift to grow up under so many generations of love.

That first foal was adorable with his long legs and short tail. That second one. . . I really hope he gets up soon.

    1. A lovely lullaby, Ivor. I am honoured that you did this with my pictures and provided the link to my post
