Big Rex And Friends

I have recently begun to take a share in reading to Ellie. Our chosen book is

which is made of well bound soft fabric.

Our great-granddaughter likes to point at eyes and other facial

features in the pictures which help her identify both the animals and their faces. She adapts her knowledge to gently point out the reader’s features. The largest spot on the diplodocus is made of a different, shiny, fabric which the child loves to press. This is therefore an enjoyable indestructible learning tool for a child who still has little speech.

Jackie is without a doubt Ellie’s favourite person. So much so that even her parents have to fight her kicking and wriggling to prise her away. It was therefore very risky to have great-granny be the photographer on this occasion. I was shown rather less gently in no uncertain terms that the toddler had had enough and wished to scamper across the room.

  1. What fun! Yes, those fabric books are just right for the really wee ones. Seems Ellie is keen on joining the literati crowd earlier than most! There is a group in this country – USA – that promotes books and reading for youngsters as a way to create lifelong educated readers. While a noble chore, I think having a great grandfather’s or -grandmother’s lap and a book is just about the very best way for kids to become acquainted with books, don’t you think?! https://literati.com/aboutus/

  2. Reading to these little ones and allowing them to poke and prod is such a rewarding activity for grandparents, great and otherwise. 🙂

  3. These are lovely photos, Jackie! You two are very special great-grandparents. I had a good laugh at the last photo. When they are too young to speak and make their needs known, other methods are employed. 🙂

  4. Ha! This is so wonderful! All of it! 🙂 ❤️
I think in that last photo, Ellie is saying, “See this, GreatG?” and she’s holding the book close to your eyes to make sure you do. 😉
What precious, special memories are made when we read to children! 🙂
Ellie is blessed to have you and Jackie in her life! And you are blessed to have her! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️

  5. I have very special memories of hours spent sitting with my great grandmother as she read to me. It was a surprise at a recent funeral, to find my sister and I are the only ones to remember her clearly – all the other cousins were too young.

  6. Jackie seems to have a special skill in the art of cuddling, from looking at your other posts. It’s wonderful that Ellie has you both and that you have her.
