Gales And Drafting

The raging storm that will beset us for the whole weekend takes me back to

from ten years ago. On that particular October of 2014 the weather did calm later, presenting similar scenes to those we experience at the moment, although respite will not come for a couple of days.

I am feeling much better after my BCG vaccine instillation and will be taking another day’s rest, fortunately enforced by the weather.

Today I finished reading “The Heart of the Family” and began drafting my review for completion tomorrow.

This evening we dined on succulent roast lamb; mint sauce; crisp Yorkshire pudding; boiled new potatoes; crunchy carrots; pure white cauliflower; flavoursome Brussels sprouts and tasty gravy with which I drank Collin-Bouriset Fleurie 2022

  1. I am glad to hear you are feeling better and getting in some more reading, Derrick.

    I don’t think I would like Heinrich Hoffman’s children’s book either. Yikes! 🙂

  2. I first read the title as Gals and Drafting… 🙂
That’s one of the wonderful side-effects of blogging; we are reminded how temperature differs from one year to another.
Glad you are feeling better and what a wonderful excuse to read more!

  3. I saw I had already left a comment from the future on your past post, so I didn’t do another, as it might really affect the time-space continuum. I still love Sendak’s books though. I’m glad you’re feeling better, and I hope there is no damage from the storm.

  4. Glad that you’re feeling better. Today is also not a good day for gardening here in Los Angeles as the edge of a “bomb cyclone,” dumping rain across the American Northwest, moves overhead.

  5. Glad you are feeling more the thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the side trip to Uses of Enchantment. Keep improving, Derrick. With food like that, I predict a brilliant recovery.

  6. Good to hear you are recovering from your procedure, Derrick … it was the opposite here for my Market Day, with the temperature hovering on 35’C during the afternoon …

  7. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better, Derrick. I look forward to your review of “The Heart of the Family.” By the way, I read the Agatha Christie short story collection you recommened and enjoyed it very much, particularly the title story. I have to say, I do prefer the 1930s Hercule Poiroit to the 1960s version.

  8. Books by Maurice Sendak were favourites of my children and grandchildren! It is good to be reminded of them 🙂 Rest well in your blizzardy weather – we are going to get close to melting in 31’C as the day marches on 🙂

  9. So glad you are feeling better and got to do some resting and reading.
Did the rain/storm play a soft classical piece, a jazzy tune, or a heavy metal song? 🙂 I hope no damage is done.
Mr. Sendak is one of my fave author/illustrators. 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️

  10. I think I have lost my way a bit, on your blog, it seems this is your new blog, but also linked to an older one too, if I am not mistaken… on which I was redirected to read the article with more photos 🙂

    1. The transfer meant a good number of photographs disappeared. It has been a frustrating problem – all because WP stopped me including any more pictures. Thank you very much, Nicole

      1. Oh… and I left a couple of comments on that other blog place, going from the links under some photos in the reminiscing posts. Probably you won’t see them then. 🙂
