Advent Day 20

Many of us in the Northern hemisphere hope for a white Christmas. Our family and friends on the other side of the world in Australia can have no such expectation, as Louisa, Errol, baby Jessica, and I discovered when we arrived in Perth on Christmas Day 2007;

We were there for Sam and Holly’s wedding

in a Margaret River winery,

which I celebrated in an Independent crossword as explained, if desired, in https://derrickjknight.com/2012/07/05/the-folio-society/

This afternoon I read more of ‘Cover Her Face’ by P.D. James.

This evening we dined on tender roast breast of lamb; boiled new potatoes; crunchy carrots; firm Brussels sprouts, and meaty gravy, with which I drank Les Aumôniers Séguret Côtes du Rhône Villages 2022.

  1. I’m in New Zealand and yes it’s supposed to be summer. Long range weather suggests a lot was rain on the 25th. But that doesn’t mean it will be cold!
    Happy holidays everyone

  2. I love reading your stories. Our snow in Illinois is later than usual, but there will be a white Christmas here after all
I envy your crossword abilities! I remember talking to you about them in the past. I love them but I am not as good at them as I wish. I solve as much as I can, then slip to word finds!

  3. The weather around the world seems to have gone wonky, Derrick, it’s so much warmer in my home state than it should be at times! I love the warmer weather!

  4. Sweet lovely smiles! Sweet beautiful memories! 🙂
We usually get our bestest snows in Oct, Nov, Jan, and Feb! So rarely a white Christmas. 🙂
Your you-created crossword puzzle is fabulous! Love the “hidden” announcement/message! 🙂
I’ve created crossword puzzles and other word puzzles, etc…but only for the kids in my life and the kids in my classroom. So they were a might bit easier than the puzzle you created. 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️

    1. Thanks very much, Tootlepedal. Nor am I, but when trying to hide a message in a grid a setter sometimes struggles. I can’t remember the clue, but an anagram would make it fair. All my Independent puzzles contained hidden words. 🙂

  5. Stunning header photo, Derrick. I doubt we will get a white Christmas, but you never know what Mother Nature will bring. Where I live, we get snow about every 2 years.

  6. Lovely photographs! I am pleased you have had a taste of what the southern hemisphere festive season can be like: the forecast is 33’C for us on Christmas Day!

  7. I love both family photos, and I remember your crosswords!
We won’t have snow on Christmas, but we did have a dusting the night before last. It’s very cold here right now (17 F).

  8. A fun crossword puzzle! Clever idea, too. Pedro and I shall be in summertime by the end of the week, but I’m afraid summer in NZ will not be the heat I seek. Still, low 70s will be better than the upper 40s we have here. One day I will go to Oz in January and find a real summer, as you did.
