I spent much of the day preparing and posting https://derrickjknight.com/2022/04/27/a-knights-tale-128-waiting-on-barbados-part-1/
The rest of my time was spent on reading the final 240 pages of. ‘Death is now my Neighbour’ by Colin Dexter. An Inspector Morse novel – one of those that spawned the long running BBC television Morse series starring John Thaw – this is a consummately crafted work worthy of such success.
Particularly on screen, the essence of a good series depends upon the chemistry of the relationship between the main protagonists such as the Chief Inspector and his Sergeant Lewis, expertly presented by the learned Dexter who remains down to earth in his characterisation. Carefully detailed and progressing to a flawless conclusion this keeps us guessing to the end.
This evening we dined on tender roast lamb; crisp Yorkshire pudding; boiled potatoes; and perfect carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts, with which Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020.
I enjoyed the books, and my husband and I both enjoyed the series.
Thanks very much, Merril
Meal sounds wonderful
Your title alarmed me until I read your post.
That’s exacrly what I was going to say! When the title of the post came across my email, it gave me quite a turn.
*exactly
I hope the immediate clarity helped you both. Thank you very much
Yes, it did, a big relief!
yep the title floored me as well…right into “oh no” 🙁
Meal sounds alarming.
The title tickled me.
I trust the alarm was short-lived, Pat. Thank you very much
My husband and I are big fans of the show as well.
Thanks a lot, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Just reading your title gave me concern.
So glad it’s not what I thought and is about a great book and series! 🙂
We have enjoyed Inspector Morse on BritBox! 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
Thanks very much, Carolyn. I trust all became clear quickly enough X
When I saw the title my first thought was “Oh, no!” That shows how much I read mysteries. 😉 Anyway, glad you were referring to a book. And your assessment is spot on for any genre.
Thanks very much, Laurie. I hope making it clear early on softened the blow of the title
Yes, it did. Phew!
Derrick, I haven’t seen the Inspector Morse series starring John Thaw. I’ve enjoyed the Endeavour series starring Shaun Evans as Inspector Morse and look forward to the release of Season 8 (or is it 9?).
Thanks very much, Rosaliene. We are not sure how many Endeavours there have been. You would like the Morse ones.
Yes Derrick, I was a great fan of Morse series on TV
Thanks very much, Ivor
Having watched Morse on TV before reading the books I didn’t really warm to the Morse of the books. That, I suppose, is the danger of letting TV take on your books.
Same here, Quercus. The TV series is so good. This is the first book I have read.
The only thing to improve it would be for him to mention that Mordred is his favourite crossword setter. 🙂
Now there’s a thought 🙂
🙂
I briefly thought maybe they put in a cemetery next door.
🙂 Thanks very much, JoAnna
Fortunately, the alarming title turned out to be a reference to a book. I am yet to meet Mr Morse and his team though.
Thanks very much, Uma. I think you would especially like the TV series
I enjoyed Colin Dexter’s novels and delighted in the television series. Fortunately, I read the novels first – wonderfully crafted as you say.
Thanks very much, Anne
Sounds like an interesting book 😉 And the dinner sounds delicious too 😋
Thank you very much, Ribana
On the TV I liked Inspector Morse and Endeavour but never really got on with Lewis
The title also raised concern here, and I am glad it is only a book. 🙂 I had not heard of the BBC television Morse series. They have done a great job with everything I have seen so far.
If you can get it on one of your streams I really recommend it – and spin offs including “Lewis” and “Endeavour”. I hope the title was revealed quickly enough. Thanks very much, Lavinia
Yes, like others, that was certainly an alarmingly eye catching title. This style of book is something of a departure from your Folio libraries. I bet you enjoyed the change.
Yes, Gwen. I needed a break from overdosing on Dickens. Thanks very much
I am yet to start reading my 22 volume set of Dickens, but it is still on my bucket list.
I have this book Derrick. But I admit I struggled to read through the pages. I think I should give it another try. Maybe I’ve become too comfortable with Agatha Christie.
🙂 Thanks very much, Mithai. Agatha is certainly more elegant
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with either the book or the TV series.
Thanks very much, Dolly. Set in Oxford with focus on University and surroundings
Sounds interesting, thank you.
Morse is also an lover of opera
Even more interesting, thank you.
