This afternoon, after converting these Classic edit posts to Blocks:
I published: https://derrickjknight.com/2023/04/01/droll-tales-18/
This afternoon I watched the Women’s Six Nations rugby matches between France and Ireland, and between Scotland and Wales.
For dinner this evening the Culinary Queen produced succulent roast pork with crisp crackling and apple sauce; a trio of roasted root veg in the form of potatoes, kumara, and parsnips; crunchy carrots; firm cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, with meaty gravy. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Fleurie.
The Culinary Queen truly earned her crown with that delicious meal.
Thank you so much, Pat
It sounds like a good day. I did have to look up kumara; that was another new one for me. I was greatly surprised to learn it refers to one of my favorite foods. I do a nice sweet potato, onion, and spinach sauté that’s quite good.
Jackie likes the sound of your dish, Linda. “With nice chopped garlic in it that would be nice”. Thank you very much
It does include minced garlic and onion, as well as turmeric, corniander, and cumin. Saute garlic/onion, add spices, then 1/2 c. broth. Add cubed sweet potato, cook until tender, adding more broth if needed. Add fresh spinach until wilted, then a splash of fresh lemon juice. Salt/pepper to taste. Jackie’s a good enough cook that should be enough of a recipe for her.
It sounds delicious, Linda 🙂
Thank you, Linda. I will pass it on
Derrick, why did you have to convert them?
Firstly because if I click on them for enlargement I get the message Nothing Here; secondly because I can’t produce galleries; thirdly because I can’t give them a header unless I do. Above all that is the only way I can get some of the pictures back. Thanks very much, Luanne
Oh gosh, what a nightmare.
It is. Thanks again, Luanne
My sympathies.
I was engrossed in the two older posts of your family and of the donkey. He seemed most contented, or perhaps he was contemplating life.
Thank you very much, Rose
I caught some of Scotland v Wales today. Scary ladies!
Aren’t they just? Jackie asked me how they would fare against my club teams. I said they would thrash us. Thanks very much, John
That is a beautiful tulip header photo, taken from the post “50 Years Ago Today”. Your Michael’s tree is doing well.
Thank you so much, Lavinia.
Just reading the deliciousness that CQ Jackie chefs always makes me smile! Yum!
Conversion, Publication, Rugby, and Dining-Deliciously sounds like a great day!
(((HUGS))) ❤️

“I love root vegetables: carrots, parsnips, and turnips.” – Julia Child
“Me, too, Julia!” – Carolyn 🙂
Thanks very much, Carolyn X
It sounds like a good day. I had to look up kumara, too. So, do yours come from New Zealand/Aotearoa? We eat sweet potatoes often.
We can’t actually discover where they come from, but apparently we don’t call them yams, and I get tired of writing “two kinds of potato, one sweet” or variations of it 🙂 Thanks very much, Merril
I enjoyed your “why did the donkey cross the road” article Derrick. The Montague Arms is definitely a splendid looking building, and I was fascinated by the miniature pumpkins
Thanks very much, Ivor
Sounds like the perfect meal
Thanks very much, Gary
I enjoyed the sweet photo of Vivien and Michael. The checkerboard window and tulip were nice, too.
Thank you very much, JoAnna
Jackie’s meal made my mouth water!
Beautiful tulip and lovely memories.
Thank you very much, Rupali
As always, I can’t get over your dinner. You guys eat very well, I am glad my husband never sees it. 🙂
That pork roast sounded like the way my mom made it. I can almost taste it!! I wonder if I can duplicate it….
Thanks a lot, GP. I’ll ask the Culinary Queen for a tip.
I appreciate how you and Jackie always quickly answer my questions!!
First rub salt in skin; then roast whole joint long and slow in tin foil; finally a quick blast without the foil. Good luck
Thank you very much!!
Your header is glorious and Jackie’s meal sounds scrumptious.
Thank you very much, Eugi
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Oh, your last night’s meal sounds just perfect.
I love charity shops, I’ve just noticed a new antique/junk shop has opened in Otley. I was down there too early, but I’ll definitely go back.
Sorry, I should have left the last remarks on the correct post.
Not to worry. The comment stands alone, Sue. Thank you very much
I love that the Culinary Queen always serves so many delicious vegey
Thanks very much, Sheree
I read Why Did The Donkey Cross The Road and had a gush of déjà vu, especially when I came to the point where the donkeys cross the road catatonically. I have apparently read the post before, and it seems WP is truncating the previous comments during conversion to blocks.
Thanks very much, Uma. I trust you are now fully recovered
I trust, that is the case.
