Garden Less Damaged

The temperature today was cooler, the wind easier, and the sun an intermittent visitor edging out the rain.

Jackie continued weeding and clipping. I helped with some bagging up and photographed

a few garden views and a couple of roses.

I have been persuaded by some of my blogging friends to break my “acquire no more books” rule and complete the Avignon series of Lawrence Durrell with a purchase of Quinx which I began reading today.

This evening we all dined on Jackie’s wholesome Monday pie, tender Sweetheart cabbage mixed with leaves of cauliflower the firm florets of which were accompanied with crunchy carrots. The Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden and I drank Peter Lehmann Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018 – a splendid wine given to me by Tess and Matt a couple of Christmases ago.

  1. Tell me. Do you EVER just sit and enjoy your spectacular gardens? 😉 I know you must. The pictures today are just breathtaking.

    1. Thank you so much, Dale. Mostly we do that in the evenings – or just taking a break because we are knackered

      1. Well… mayhaps a day here or there you forego the work in the garden during the day and enjoy it sans being knackered! 😉

  2. You both have done an outstanding job keeping those gardens colorful and lush. Your combined love of gardening and life in general shows in all these photos.

Never say never to a book. They can always be donated to a library at some point. 🙂

  3. Incredible pictures today, Derrick. Jackie looks so at home tending to her garden. And the pictures from up high give a spectacular perspective. Of course, the close up flowers steal the show.

What, may I ask, is Monday Pie?

  4. I’m looking forward to your review of the last volume. And I also wondered about Monday pie. It occurred to me it might be akin to red beans and rice here; that was the traditional meal on Mondays in Cajun country, because it was easy to fix while the women were doing laundry.

  5. A beautiful gallery of beautiful garden. There’s been a lot of pruning, reshaping, improving and weeding going on since I first followed your blog. I have enjoyed every moment of it.

  6. I have had that ‘buy no more books ‘rule’ for years and choose to ignore it with gay abandon. One day our house will collapse under the weight of books! I buy new books, pick up secondhand ones, pass them on or gather more. I loved the bookshelf at Dorchester station where one could pick up a book for free and leave books for others to enjoy: such a lovely way of keeping books circulating 🙂

  7. As always, a wonderful gallery of garde photos.
Yesterday here, the temperature was a wintry 18 degrees, although today the sky is a bright blue. and the sun is, for now, shining brightly. So fingers crossed!

  8. You’ve showcased the garden’s peace, joy, and beauty is these spectacular photos! 🙂
I spotted some owls! And I enjoy seeing the gorgeous roses!
YAY for a new book purchase! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ❤️

  9. Very beautiful photos of your garden–I can’t pick a favorite. I like the first photo of Jackie because it looks like you called her name and you took the photo when she turned.

    I do like a good Shiraz! 🙂
