Preparing For Ashley

Today’s warm-still-sunshine weather belies the anticipated 46 m.p.h. winds of storm Ashley expected to strike tomorrow.

We therefore went into full batten down the hatches mode as we lowered items bound to be blown down.

Next, we filled six more compost bags with clippings Jackie had accumulated over the last few days.

Mushrooms continue to proliferate on the spread roots of the dead Weeping Birch. The head gardener added some these to a bag.

Later I read most of García Lorca’s ‘Blood Wedding’.

This evening we dined on slow-baked gammon; creamy mashed potatoes; crunchy carrots; firm cauliflower, and tender runner beans. with which I finished the vińa San Juan.

  1. I tried to look at the Met map and it looks like Ashley has just passed over or another one is coming soon. But I don’t know if it is showing me what I want. The met map here is shows an active continuously updating picture.
Anyway I hope your preparations were effective.

  2. I’ll bet Ashley was Milton, the same storm that passed over Florida a few days ago, Derrick. 46mph isn’t bad, we just had a windstorm here and the gusts were over 35mph. Hold on tight!

  3. Bestest luck! Hope you all are safe. So good to be prepared.
We’ve been having rain, bit of snow, cold temps, and windy, but not Ashley-windy.
    Keep us updated.
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️

  4. I will continue to mutter about the weather, it has been unpleasant this year with its multiple annoyances of wind and water. That sounds like our planned evening meal for Monday. Tonight’s meal will be pasta bake using courgettes, peppers and mushrooms with the last of the tomato soup as the sauce. That soup maker is just too big.

  5. That was beautiful sunny weather, and I hope you and Jackie come through the storm alright and do not lose power. It is good you have everything in the garden prepared for the onslaught of bad weather.

  6. Battening down the hatches ahead of the storm: you’re both expert at this. I nonetheless hope you do not bear the full brunt of it!

  7. Good luck with Ashley, Derrick. We’ve had our share of nasty storms hitting Florida and North Carolina. Both states are still reeling from the davastation.

  8. I hope all went well with no damage from the storm, here in Florida we are still recovering from Milton. Thanks for sharing as always, the dinner sounds delicious.
