Focus On The Back Drive

While Jackie continued her creative magic in the garden, and between televised tennis sessions, I wandered around admiring the fruits of her labours, and, of course photographing them.

We have a number of different day lilies;

Water Lily

and the first water lily has now bloomed on the tiny cistern pond.

An astilbe thrives in the shady western bed.

And Margaret Merrill hosts a miniature beetle drive.

Back Drive barrier with robin

Looking through the Back Drive barrier towards the Rose Garden, I noticed a robin perched on the mid-way arch.

It flitted off, so I stalked it for a while.

The barrier provides a floral frame for the drive,

snapdragons,

Achillea and snapdragons

and achillea, are just a few examples.

Naturally there are also hanging baskets, better lit in the afternoon.

This evening we dined on fried eggs, bacon, tomatoes, and mushrooms; baked beans and toast. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank Gilbert & Gaillard Châteauneuf du Pape 2014. Well, why not?

  1. It’s quite amazing and beautiful, what’s you’ve done with the back drive…and in the rose garden, how lovely are Penny Lane and Margaret Merrill….The Beatles and the beetles…

        1. Lol. It is supposed to be good, but I hope you stop there because some people actually have outside toilets to do other business and for me, that is going too far.

          1. It’s probably here, but I’ve never heard it. The adults I know don’t really say that word and if they do, it’s just, “Oh crap!” when something goes awry. Kids may use the word in a more vulgar manner. It’s a funny saying… maybe I’ll start using it 🙂

    1. About an hour and a half – two hours a day, I do the garden in sections, so only a third of the garden gets water in a day, that way I can manage. I will check the whole garden(back and front) daily as some parts and pots are more vulnerable due to over hanging trees and the size of the container has a bearing too.

      1. I was guessing two – three hours daily Jackie – it’s a big chunk of time every day. I was hoping you might have a super-dooper-secret pot watering tip up your sleeve 🙂

  2. Wow, Derrick! Absolutely stunning photos. Jackie’s “creative magic in the garden” is matched by your creative magic with the camera. You’re a great team. 🙂

  3. Florida means, land of flowers. But I don’t think we even come close to the traditional English garden! You and Jackie do a fantastic job!

  4. My only question is: is there a flower that you don’t have it in your garden, Derick&Jackie? 🙂
