Jackie spent the morning working on the garden beds. I finished aerating the scrawny grass patch and did a little clearing up.
At the house end of the Gazebo Path weeded by Aaron last week, Jackie worked on tidying the Triangular Bed;
and, alongside the Dead End Path, the West Bed.
Viewed from our back drive, the splendid magnolia still soars above the vacant North Breeze jungle.
Runaway pansies from last year’s hanging baskets have seeded at will.
The Head Gardener’s Walk, laid down two years ago, threads through the then non-existent Dragon Bed.
Almost by the hour, tulips are opening out everywhere.
This shield bug vainly hoped to hide behind a vinca.
This evening we dined on Jackie’s succulent sausage casserole, creamy mashed potato and swede, fresh spring greens and runner beans. Neither of us imbibed.
Even the pansies don’t want to leave your garden – they left seeds around to germinate and bloom for you two! A happy place for flora and fauna.
Very many thanks, GP
How’s your Latin? Vainy, weedy, vinca
I looked at myself in a mirror, I gardened, I blossomed.
Brilliant reply, Jodie. Saves me working on it
: )
Wainy, weedy, winky, surely. Thanks for your usual witty comment, Bruce.
The last photo with the vinca and the shield bug is simply amazing! Happy Easter, Derrick!
Very many thanks, Sofia. It was so difficult to get that out of the shade. Your good wishes reciprocated.
The garden’s lovely.
Thanks a lot, Sherry
It is lovely that the pansies are self seeding – or ‘volunteering’ as American gardeners call it. I always appreciate that random act of kindness in my tiny garden. Your spring garden is a joy!
Volunteering! – My favorite gardening word ever. “I’ll grow!! Me, Me! I’ll grow!”
Exactly jodierichelle – it’s a wonderful way of looking at it isn’t it 🙂
It is a great word, Jodie. I love the way you have presented it.
I was just in the backyard looking for this year’s volunteers. I do have a few already!
🙂
Many thanks, Pauline. Have you seen Jodie’s comment?
Indeed I have – and responded 🙂
It’s so nice to see pictures of Jackie busy in the garden, once again. Such a beautiful day to be outside tinkering.
Many thanks, Jill. It was
“Neither of us imbibed”. Have you joined the Band of Hope?
We expect to make up for it this evening 🙂 Thanks, Quercus
Glad it’s not the thin edge of the wedge…
🙂
Beautiful flowers, Derrick.
Many thanks, Persia. We meant the inviration
So many new blooms. How lovely.
Thanks a lot, Miriam
LOVE the walk through the Dragon’s Bed. So many fun parts to your garden.
Thanks so much, Jodie
Almost by the hour, tulips are opening out everywhere. That about sums up the Spirit of your garden. I wonder what else has been a-hiding in that corner of the enchanted wood?
Thanks a lot, Uma. I’ll keep my eyes peeled
Love it when plants seed themselves around. Aren’t the tulips beautiful just now. Your garden looks lovely Derrick.
Very many thanks, Karen
Woooweee! Talk about an abundance of colors! Love that pathway!
Many thanks, In
Wow! It’s all so lovely! And there’s no better volunteer than a pansy!
Thanks very much, Kerry
It is a stunning and wide collection but the one with sunshine and a tree trunk with purple flowers, daffodils and the red flowers in the background is where I want to pull up a chair and read a book, Derrick. 🙂
Lots of work being done! Great that Jackie is doing so much to the gardens. . . as well as cooking “feasts!” I just resort to sandwiches or soup since it is rare for me to have adult eating guests.
I like the shield bug who looks like an ancient bug from when dinosaurs lived. We have AA brown looking shield bug that is also called a stink bug since it leaves a smell on your fingers, ewww!
Many thanks, Robin, for your usual comprehensive comments.
Great pics as usual Derrick, your garden looks like a natural botanical garden, do any more work in it, and it might end up being registered as a National park.
🙂 Nice one, Ian. Thanks very much
beautiful blooms <3
Thanks very much, Kim
It brings great joy when some flower or plant seed at their own will… loved the beautiful pictures… 🙂
Many thanks, Maniparna
Your tulip shots should be in a magazine Derrick –
🙂 Many thanks, Mary
Looking lovely – even the bug shield!
Such beauty do the tulips hold–they enchant me! I enjoyed the Head Gardener’s Walk, too. Such good work being done-better you two than me!….
Many thanks, Cynthia. We are so pleased we got the really heavy stuff done in the first two years – we couldn’t do it now
The magnolia is gorgeous!
Many thanks, Lynn
