Heavy, steady, rain fell throughout most of the day.
I photographed the scenes from indoors. The pendant in the rain spattered window was made for me by the daughter of a client some thirty years ago. The fallen pot was blown down. If there are any more we don’t want to know about it.
I looked down on the garden from upstairs.
Seen from our bedroom window, the puddle in the gutter outside our front drive is a good rain gauge.
At mid morning we left in the rain for a damp forest drive. I had expected simply to make photographs from the car. In the event I couldn’t help myself, so Jackie parked on the verge of Braggers Lane where I found raindrops spiralling in puddles; damp trees; and
damper field horses, some in rugs rooting around, I think for acorns – poisonous to them – in puddles behind barbed wire.
This evening we dined on Jackie’s cracking chicken stoup and crusty bread, followed by ample apple pie and custard, with which she drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Shiraz.
I can really appreciate your photographs of the rain for we have enjoyed (for the first time in MONTHS) a day of mist, light drizzle and cold that has yielded 20mm so far. It is HEAVEN!
Long may it last for you, Anne. Thanks very much
I like the photos of the puddles and the horses in black and white.
Thanks very much, Rabirius
We could do with some of that rain to put out the wildfires across California. Love your photos of the puddle in the gutter outside our front drive and the damp forest tree–an excellent composition–in its glory.
Thanks very much, Rosaliene. I would happily share the rain.
🙂
That apple pie looks divine
Thanks a lot, Sheree
I think lots of us have some kind of unofficial “rain gauge” like your gutter. Glad you got some rain, even if your pot paid for it. I think this is the first time I have noticed horses that look like draft horse stock in you photos of the local equine population. And my does Jackie’s soup and pie look absolutely irresistible!
Thank you so much, Maj. Those heavy horses don’t roam free pf course, so we don’t see them do often.
Warning to readers: never read Derrick’s posts when you’re hungry because Jackie’s cooking will make you want to eat your screen. That bread looks fantastic as does the soup. Perfect for a rainy day.
🙂 Nice one, Sue. Thank you very much.
The soup and and pie look delicious. Perfect for a rainy day.
Indeed, Laurie. Thanks very much
Stunning sir.
Thanks very much, Gary
The garden looks good, even in the rain. Hope there wasn’t too much damage.
We haven’t investigated, but it won’t be too bad. Still raining. Thanks a lot, Quercus
Looks like it will rain for days. Ah well!
Your supper looks really good–and perfect for a rainy day! I had to biggify the intriguing pendant to get a better look. Ceramic? My favorites out of this group are “Tree Trunk and Fence” and “Oak Trees.”
Thanks very much, Liz. More good choices. Yes, I think ceramic, with a transparent coating of material I’m not sure of.
That soup looks nourishing. Just what you need after a depressing day of gloomy weather.
Indeed, Tootlepedal. Thanks very much
It rained all day here too and I did not set a foot outside, but it has helped make your pictures atmospheric. I liked the slate patchwork effect on the patio.
Thanks very much, Susan. We inherited the patio from the vendors.
Love the inside looking out shots, Derrick. No doubt, the soup warmed the bones on a rainy day. It looks yummy!
Thanks very much, Jill
Your rainy day photos are divine, Derrick! I love rain! (Hey, could you box some up and send it our way?!) 😀 The rain makes everything, cleaner, brighter, clearer, more colourful! YAY, rain!!! 🙂
The pendant in your window is so beautiful! 🙂
Love the puddles and the ponies! Looks like a fly-free day for the ponies! YAY! 🙂
Photo #15 from the top…so cool! Looks like Mother Nature’s drapes! 🙂
BTW: When you describe Jackie’s chef-ing delights so deliciously it makes me hungry! NOW, to SEE them, too…YIKES…made my tummy growl! 😉 😀 Looks like a perfect rainy day meal!!! 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂
Thank you so much for these fulsome comments, Carolyn X
Rain is always good but at times enough is enough. The rain has brought out the coloured foliage in your garden. Hopefully there wasn’t and more pots down.
Chrissy
Thanks very much, Chrissy. We haven’t looked yet. 🙂
A fine spring day here Derrick, a comfortable 25’C …. !!
That would be hot for us 🙂 Thanks very much, Ivor.
The photos through the window worked very well..Lovely angles and shots. Why do the horses eat the acorns if they are poisonous to them? I thought animals knew about such things. Jackie’s soup made me hungry even though I’ve just eaten..
Thanks very much, Judy. Perhaps it is a matter of quantity.
The gardens are beautiful, even in the rain! The forest scenes look in subdued lighting look peaceful, and the horses stoically waiting it out. I wouldn’t mind a quiet rainy day or two here. 🙂
I hope you get some, Lavinia. Thanks very much
You have profiled the rain exceedingly well against the exuberant canvas of the Garden. Outdoors, not surprisingly, you have found out your favourite subjects.
Thanks very much, Uma 🙂
beautiful rainy day photos, Derrick! the garden looks divine in the rain! the horses must be hungry. 🙂 the soup and pie are perfect for rainy day!
Thank you very much, Lola
not a drop of rain down-under but that’s not to say that summer of spring is truly here – in a few weeks like it will be winter of spring again and I’ll be thinking of putting the heating right back on!
I do hope it is better than that, Cedar. Thanks very much.
I watched the Everton-Brighton game on BT and I thought that at any moment the referee would abandon it. It absolutely lashed down for 90 minutes. Here in Nottingham, it was just miserable heavy drizzle, nothing dramatic, just unsuitable for venturing out !
Thanks a lot, John. We’re off soon to watch Andy run his London Marathon through the New Forest. Rain predicted.
Wonderful rainy day journal.
Thanks very much, Rupali
You are able to bring interest to even the dullest of days. Thank you, Derrick.
Thank you so much, Roland
Love the photography of the rain and the pictures of the horses, especially the black and white. It was a very sunny day in Brighton where I had gone yesterday so it was nice to have that contrast as I left a rainy London in the morning.
I am pleased you chased the sun, Geetha. Thanks very much
Most welcome Derrick. I am pleased too. It was a miserable Saturday otherwise in London
I’m sure
Such an opportunity to capture droplets, reflection tins and textures. Love it ❣️
An opportunity, indeed. Thanks so much, Val.
I love the rain — perfect for curling up with a good book. Looks like you had some fun with photographs despite the dreary weather. Love the horse photos as always!
Thanks you very much, Lisa
Lovely rain.
Thanks very much, Sherry
Lovely rain photos, and it sounds like it was a good night for hot soup.
It sure was, Merril. Thank you very much
You had rain while we, for once, had lovely sunny weather here in West Cork. No doubt we too will soon be back to rain as is the usual 🙂
🙂 Enjoy it while it lasts, Agnes. Thanks very much.
Een appeltaartje bij dit gure herft-weer is zó geweldig … An big pot of tea … O, jaaaah . . . , you make my day! En, die paarden zijn ook geweldig! Zó lief … Amsterdam, 4 oktober 2020, 22.45 uur … Hollandse Zomertijd * http://www.friedabblog.wordpress.com *
Thanks very much, Frieda
Your found beauty on a rainy day.
Thanks very much, Mrs W. It is always there
You just have to look. Some people don’t look and lean towards the negative side.
Lovely apple pie – my compliments to the chef!
It seems that the flowers in your garden do not mind the rain, and neither do the horses in the forest. Interesting black and whites, thank you, and fascinating spirals in the puddle.
Thank you very much, too, Dolly.
Yoiu are very welcome, Derrick.
It seems the rain is making even more greener your wonderful garden 😍🌸
Beautiful photographs as always!
Oh my and that apple pie and custard 😋😋😋
Thank you very much, Ribana. Lovely comments.
I enjoyed the deep, rich color in these photos. Love those oak branches! And the apple pie – yum!
Thank you very much, JoAnna.
Your garden looks lovely in the rain. And that apple pie looks absolutely perfect for the weather.
Thanks you very much, LL/PS
Great pictures in the rain and a wonderful meal to end a wet autumn day.
Thanks very much, Pat
I love the garden images especially when rain-soaked.
