This morning we visited Crestwood Showrooms on the Ampress estate in order to select flooring for the new kitchen. We then took our sample to Anne at Kitchen Makers in Sway. Anne will organise the installation. Jackie also discussed various other options while I wandered around with my camera.
The kitchen showroom is tastefully laid out with examples of appliances, cupboards, and surfaces; with carefully placed ornaments and accoutrements.

Anne explained how appliances such as the microwave oven worked.
This evening we dined on Jackie’s flavoursome cottage pie with cheesy topping; firm Brussels sprouts and carrots. She drank Hoegaarden and I drank Mendoza Beefsteak Club Malbec 2016, a very good Christmas gift from Helen and Bill.
Ahh! Exciting! A new palace for your culinary queen. I’m envious. Everything looks so pretty and shiny and new.

My kind of post! For a person who is a very average cook, I’m remarkably at home in kitchens – real or imagined. And one of these decades when my ship comes in, I’ll have to get an Aga. (My English friend pronounces that Arga, by the way.) Unfortunately, my ship is a slow boat from China….

So many choices! I’m not sure the idea of the utensils over the cooktops is practical. First you have to be tall enough to reach them, the metal ones might be too hot to grab in a hurry, and they’ll be a devil to keep clean when oil splatters. What does Jackie think – Is she tempted to it? It certainly looks attractive. I’m guessing an important thing for her is the internal width of the oven. The developer has skimped on that in our apartment. Probably thought that “seniors” don’t have visitors 😀It’s a struggle at Christmas and other events. And if I had my choice I would get an induction cooktop. I love cooking with gas but the protective skillet is a pain to keep clean and the gas jet thingys begin to rust over time. We also have the microwave over the oven as in your photo. It works, but I’m 5’4″. One’s a fraction high and the other a fraction low. Designing a kitchen from scratch does mean you can order the placement of these things and the bench heights to your own specifications. Space and money permitting of course. Oooooh, sounds as if I’d like a new kitchen myself. I’m excited to see your final product.
Very many thanks, Gwen. We got the recent mortgage to help daughter buy a flat. We could only borrow more than was needed – hence our finance for the new kitchen. Jackie was 5’9″ – maybe a little less now. I still don’t think she’d have that arrangement over the hob.
Oh I remember the long legs in the hot pant photo. We had a similar borrowing experience years back. To get the preferred interest rate applied to a home loan versus a personal loan, we had to borrow more than we needed. Then, since it was a variable loan, we basically paid the surplus straight back to them. Nuts hey? Anyway, you’ve got a new kitchen out of it. Bonus!

You really need two kitchens – one to use and one to photograph. That way you can always have one with artistically placed utensils and ornaments. Though that may just be my biased view of people who sell kitchens…

Oooh, a new kitchen! … I remember getting a new kitchen. My partner at the time and I designed it from the ground up. It was such fun. 🙂 … also fun, because someone else did all the installing. 😀

Wow, you’re at the exciting stages. I can say I am madly happy with my new kitchen. It’s a nice opportunity to get what you want, what fits, and at the right heights. If I had a large kitchen, I would get the Aga–all those lovely compartments at different temperatures. Of course, they can make the kitchen warm in the summer and eat a bit of gas. Good luck with all the choices!

How nice to be planning a new kitchen! We had new worktops and a new hob just over eight years ago and that made such a difference! The cupboards are falling apart now! I hope it all goes very well.
