This morning we visited Crestwood Showrooms on the Ampress estate in order to select flooring for the new kitchen. We then took our sample to Anne at Kitchen Makers in Sway. Anne will organise the installation. Jackie also discussed various other options while I wandered around with my camera.
The kitchen showroom is tastefully laid out with examples of appliances, cupboards, and surfaces; with carefully placed ornaments and accoutrements.
Milo, the dog, sat on the stone floor reflecting on the proceedings, as
Anne explained how appliances such as the microwave oven worked.
This evening we dined on Jackie’s flavoursome cottage pie with cheesy topping; firm Brussels sprouts and carrots. She drank Hoegaarden and I drank Mendoza Beefsteak Club Malbec 2016, a very good Christmas gift from Helen and Bill.
Ahh! Exciting! A new palace for your culinary queen. I’m envious. Everything looks so pretty and shiny and new.
Many thanks, Susanne
My kind of post! For a person who is a very average cook, I’m remarkably at home in kitchens – real or imagined. And one of these decades when my ship comes in, I’ll have to get an Aga. (My English friend pronounces that Arga, by the way.) Unfortunately, my ship is a slow boat from China….
We had an Aga in Newark. I would really recommend one. Thanks a lot, Cynthia
Always wanted one, but it won’t happen now!
Thanks a lot, Culinary Queen XX
Best of luck!!
Thanks a lot, GP
It looks like you had fun wandering about with your camera, Derrick. ๐ Good luck with the kitchen remodeling. I hope there is not too much disruption in the process, but I’m sure the end result will be worth it.
Many thanks, Merril
So many choices! I’m not sure the idea of the utensils over the cooktops is practical. First you have to be tall enough to reach them, the metal ones might be too hot to grab in a hurry, and they’ll be a devil to keep clean when oil splatters. What does Jackie think – Is she tempted to it? It certainly looks attractive. I’m guessing an important thing for her is the internal width of the oven. The developer has skimped on that in our apartment. Probably thought that “seniors” don’t have visitors ๐It’s a struggle at Christmas and other events. And if I had my choice I would get an induction cooktop. I love cooking with gas but the protective skillet is a pain to keep clean and the gas jet thingys begin to rust over time. We also have the microwave over the oven as in your photo. It works, but I’m 5’4″. One’s a fraction high and the other a fraction low. Designing a kitchen from scratch does mean you can order the placement of these things and the bench heights to your own specifications. Space and money permitting of course. Oooooh, sounds as if I’d like a new kitchen myself. I’m excited to see your final product.
Very many thanks, Gwen. We got the recent mortgage to help daughter buy a flat. We could only borrow more than was needed – hence our finance for the new kitchen. Jackie was 5’9″ – maybe a little less now. I still don’t think she’d have that arrangement over the hob.
Oh I remember the long legs in the hot pant photo. We had a similar borrowing experience years back. To get the preferred interest rate applied to a home loan versus a personal loan, we had to borrow more than we needed. Then, since it was a variable loan, we basically paid the surplus straight back to them. Nuts hey? Anyway, you’ve got a new kitchen out of it. Bonus!
Yep ๐
Wow looks wonderful! Exciting
Many thanks, Lynn
You really need two kitchens – one to use and one to photograph. That way you can always have one with artistically placed utensils and ornaments. Though that may just be my biased view of people who sell kitchens…
Don’t worry, Quercus. I only ever photograph as is. Thanks a lot
I daren’t photograph the reality of our kitchen. ๐
I like looking through home magazines, floors of department stores and friends like you two. I’m happy for Jackie especially! โจ๐
Thanks very much, Robin. This is all so she can have ‘the triangle’. ๐
Oooh, a new kitchen! … I remember getting a new kitchen. My partner at the time and I designed it from the ground up. It was such fun. ๐ … also fun, because someone else did all the installing. ๐
Thanks a lot, Widders. Your last sentence is crucial ๐
๐
How exciting! Jackie looks as though she’s quite serious about this project. No doubt, you’ll highlight the progress. ๐
Many thanks, Jill. Starting in February, so I have a bit of time to do the ‘before’ version
Wow, you’re at the exciting stages. I can say I am madly happy with my new kitchen. It’s a nice opportunity to get what you want, what fits, and at the right heights. If I had a large kitchen, I would get the Aga–all those lovely compartments at different temperatures. Of course, they can make the kitchen warm in the summer and eat a bit of gas. Good luck with all the choices!
Very many thanks, Lisa. I remember your new one
Your in the beatifual blessed stages of your remodel canโt wait for more updates ๐
Many thanks, msw
It must be exciting and nice to have a new kitchen. You have lots of choices there.
We do, Arlene. I will leave that task to the Culinary Queen. Many thanks
So exciting …. it’ll be a most anticipated ‘big reveal’ when done ๐
Many thanks, Osyth
That is a cutting edge kitchen for sure. Milo might be bored with the familiarity of all that, but I am sure you and Jackie are excited.
So true, Uma. You can even put metal in the microwave as long as it has food in it. Many thanks
Nice kitchens. Considering mine is disgusting and the landlord won’t replace any of the broken items, I feel rather envious ๐
Thanks a lot, Geetha. Sorry about your landlord
Welcome Derrick and you don’t have to be. He finally at least painted the house once in the seven years I have been living here so at least something was done ๐
If I were to choose one I would choose the earthen tiled kitchen in image one. I don’t remember what your kitchen looked like
Thanks a lot, Geetha. I’ll be posting a ‘before’ set soon
Welcome Derrick and I look forward to seeing that
Something easy to clean would be my own choice. Looking forward to the before and after photos, Derrick and Jackie!
Many thanks, Lavinia
How nice to be planning a new kitchen! We had new worktops and a new hob just over eight years ago and that made such a difference! The cupboards are falling apart now! I hope it all goes very well.
Thanks very much, Clare
It takes a special kind of man who caters to the tastes of his wife when planning a new kitchen, patience is not one of my best traits, but I realize, when done with marital love, all things can be achieved, look forward to the end results.
Kind regards.
Very many thanks, Ian
Lucky Jackie! But then, it sounds like she is a fabulous cook, so her new kitchen is well deserved. We’ll look forward to pictures and stories about the dishes she creates there!
Many thanks, Diane
Your new kitchen is something to really look forward to. Jackie sound like a great cook, and I’m sure will be even more inspired after the remodel. :>)
Very many thanks, Sylvia
Milo is probably more interested in what comes out of the kitchen rather than the kitchen itself.
๐ Many thanks LL/PS
Thanks very much, Kitchen Cook
Looks like a wonderful day.
Thanks very much for looking back, Mrs W
Your welcome.
