This afternoon Jackie drove us all to Helen and Bill’s at Fordingbridge where we enjoyed introducing Dillon to his aunt by marriage, and a little later to John who had called in on his mother.
Later we dined at The Lamb Inn in Nomansland.
As Dillon explained, a trio of Guinea Fowl were occupied in clearing ticks from the green in front of the pub.
In the pub garden Jackie and Flo chose well-filled burgers, chips, and slaw for their main meal, followed by Eton mess and Brownie with ice cream respectively; Dillon and I both selected succulent steak and ale pie with very flavoursome carrots and cauliflower, and tender garden peas. Jackie and Dillon both drank Inch’s medium cider, Flo drank J2O, and I drank Doom Bar.
The sun was setting as we left for home.
Looks like a delightful day — I love the shots of the guinea fowl, which we don’t see here in the wild!

I think this may be the first time you have featured Guinea Fowl. Odd looking creatures!
If there are ticks about, then be very wary of them The whole of Britain is now known to be infected and they may carry Lyme’s disease which is serious. The NHS recommends “covering your skin when you’re outdoors, staying on footpaths and using insect repellent.”

I would love to see more Guinea fowl here. I have long term Lyme and NY is full of ticks. I have been reinfected twice.

Guineas can perform another function; they make fine watch animals. My maternal grandparents had them on their farm, and my mother’s stories were quite amusing. There’s a place on Galveston Island where they roam, too, and they certainly can put up a racket when they decide their territory’s been violated.

What a beautiful pub garden. No doubt created with lots of love and effort.
I always wear my wellies when walking in the long grass, a tick bite is not pleasant. I remember one of our dogs being quite poorly from one.
The Guinea Fowl reminded me of our hens pecking about looking for worms and insects in the ground.
