Except for the increased power of the wind today’s weather was best presented by holding up a mirror to yesterday’s.

While they were wandering round the garden the crash of one of the patio chairs prompted Jackie and Helen to lay down the rest.

A windswept fuchsia Delta’s Sarah suffered its second loss of limb in two days; the Japanese maple was one of the tossed trees beside the Pond Bed in which the tendrils of the wisteria waved like the locks of Medusa.
Helen and Bill had come for lunch, carrying Birthday presents. We enjoyed one of Jackie’s cold meats, cheese, and salads repasts, then repaired to the sitting room where we spent the afternoon in wide-ranging conversation, including reminiscing on our earlier years’ knowledge of each other.
We all spoke of schooldays, giving me the opportunity to recount some of the stories featured in
which I needed subsequently to convert from Classic to Block edit. Re-reading this prompted today’s post title.
Jackie and I met at Helen’s 21st Birthday Party featured in
This needed the similar conversion.
After watching the Wimbledon Ladies tennis match between Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina we dined on Jackie’s spicy piri-piri chicken, which Ellie greatly enjoyed, and colourful vegetable rice; the Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Shiraz.
Happy Birthday to ? š Pity about the wind.
Phew! I thought I had missed something, too!
Jackie’s was 1st June, mine is 7th July
Two summer babies!
Yep
š
Jackie’s was 1st June, mine is 7th July. Thanks very much, Sherry
Goid to know
Despite the underlying story, the mention of the sun and the moon brought this gem to mind, from Annie Get Your Gun.
Thank you very much for this, Linda. Hearing Doris took me back to age 14. Que sera sera was the top hit playing all day long in the eye hospital where I was laid up for a fortnight having been whacked by a cricket ball.
And “Que Sera, Sera” was quite a part of my life, too. My mother loved it, and would frequently sing it as she worked around the house.
I sang it, too š
Always delightful to visit with dear old friends.
Thank you very much, Pat
Martin’s work on the patio is showing to very good advantage today!
Thank you so much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Let’s see…Jackie had her birthday in June…so…it must be almost time for your birthday, Derrick!
‘Twill be on the 7th…right. And you will be 39 years old…right. (wink, wink)
‘Tis heart-touching to revisit stories/memories from the past with family and friends today. ā¤ļø
Sorry to hear about the wind being hurtful to the garden.
(((HUGS))) ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Mine will be on 7th, yes. 81, Thank you so much, Carolyn X
Your wind must have been a lot stronger than ours and I thought that ours was bad enough. Has your weather recently been consistently poor or is that just an impression from reading your blog?
Not so good now – heating coming on this morning – but still little rain. Thanks very much, Tootlepedal
Early July, and down here this time of the year the wind dosn’t blow much, but the mornings are cold and damp and if we are lucky we might get some winter sunshine in the afternoon … I’m heading off to work today (again) doing a plumbing job for a friend … hmmm .. stretching the friendship, the body is not keeping pace with my mind !!!
I hope U bend enough, Ivor. Thanks very much
Reminiscing, eh? Bruce Springsteen had a big hit titled, āThe Glory Daysā. Your story reminded me of it.
Thank you very much, Steve
“… the tendrils of the wisteria waved like the locks of Medusa.” So beautifully poetic.
Thanks very much, JoAnna
That patio is gorgeous even with the chairs down. What wind! And happy, happy birthday!
Thank you so much, Laurie
You get some mighty storms! It is always excellent to share a meal and good talk with friends. Sounds like a good afternoon.
Thank you very much, Cynthia
Despite the wind, a good day in good company!
Thank you very much, Ribana
I love the patio setting.
Thank you very much, Chrissy
Hope the wind dies down. Still, itās nice to reminisce with friends. Happy July Derrick
Happy belated and early birthday greetings to you both! š
Thank you very much, Sandra
It was very windy here yesterday too,. The chimneysweep was going to put a new cowl on one of the chimneys, but had to abandon the plan.
Thanks very much, John
Wow Derrick, your birthday is coming!
Thanks very much, Arlene
It’s great catching up with friends who knew you in your youth
Especially in my case when we had 40 years apart
I sympathise with the wind Derrick… Its been very windy here in the Middlands too.. And my hanging baskets on the side of our home, despite us tying them so they wouldn’t spin in circles… Still got a battering and also broke off a beautiful limb of one of our fuchsias in the hanging basket which was blown all the way to our front garden.
Today we have Lashings of heavy rain at intervals throughout the day…
At least the Tennis court got the hair-dryers out LOL š
Have a great week Derrick…. <3 š
Thanks very much, Sue. You, too. X
Happy belated birthday to Jackie, and early birthday wishes to you. My birthday was June 17th.
Right between us. Thanks very much, Eugi
Most welcome, Derrick.
Thanks for the delightful post and conversation, Derrick. I hope you have something nice planned for your birthday weekend!
Going out for a meal, Val. Thanks very much
Wishing you and Jackie many more birthdays to come!
The winds sound like they have been quite powerful there. We have been getting daily winds here as the land warms with the climbing sun. It has been hot, and very dry. The gusts can be rather strong in the afternoon.
Stay well, you two. ????ā¤ļø????
The emojis came out strangely. Trying this ???? ā¤ļø ????
That looks weird in the reader, too. Sign. Love to you both.
Thank you do much, Lavinia. I only use X and the keyboard : and ) – š
The patio looks great. So glad that the garden did not suffer extensive damage from the high winds. Happy Birthday wishes to you both <3

I always enjoy looking back and chatting about the past. It often a surprise to realise how long ago the events occurred.
I always enjoy reading about your past too.
Thank you so much, Sue
Happy birthday to both of you, with best wishes for good health to 120.
Thank you so much from us both, Dolly
You are very welcome both, Derrick.
