Sunshine And Showers Today

Before this morning’s first shower descended I carried out a session of rose dead heading. Shirt sleeves kept me warm enough.

After a heavy spattering on our roof I introduced my lens to the sun briefly flirting with scudding cloud clusters.

Raindrops on various blooms and a few garden views came into view. The day, much of which I spent nearing the end of the second volume of Richard Church’s autobiography, continued with more overcast skies than with sunshine.

This evening we all dined on succulent roast pork with perfect tooth-testing crackling; crisp Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes; crunchy carrots; firm broccoli and cauliflower; tender runner beans and spinach; and meaty gravy, with which Jackie drank more of the Lieblich and I drank Hacienda Uranus Garnacha Old Vines, 2020.

  1. I wonder if you and Jackie ever get much time to sit on that inviting garden bench and simply admire the garden. It is great to see so many flowers still blooming.

  2. Raindrops on flowers…always beautiful!
Love the leaves-shadow-art on the bench, the lichen-art, and the sparkling Japanese Maple!
Hope all teeth are still intact. Sounds like a warm-hearty-delicious meal! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  3. I had roast pork 2 nights ago, not something I cook or eat at home. Actually eating a lot of dishes, whilst away.

Rain here this morning but the blue sky has appeared. After Lunch I shall bus into the city and go to Museum…

  4. Delta’s Sarah is so exquisite! I love to imagine walking down those paths. Is there a story (perhaps I’ve forgotten) about the Nottingham Castle bench? Did it come from the castle?

    1. Thanks very much, JoAnna. The bench is a replica of those at the castle. We bought it when we lived in Newark and I kept it with me on my subsequent moves.

  5. The remaining flowers still look beautiful, Derrick and Jackie. It still sounds like it is fairly warm there for this time of year. This weekend we are supposed to dip into the low 20s overnight. Rick and I picked out the rest of the garden today.

  6. One thing about the weather’s excesses that worries me is that in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, some places are eight feet deep in water, and they have never been flooded before. You seem to have had a lovely day though.

  7. Delightful snaps, and why wasn’t I invited to that luscious sounding dinner????! Naughty, but roast pork and lamb, with all the trimmings, really tempt my taste-buds…The truth tho’ is that -now I’m ancient – my appetite is not what it was…Thanks for the memory!
