On a warmer yet overcast afternoon we took a forest drive.
Donkeys claimed the road at Cadnam;
ponies gathered at Bramshaw;
on Penn Common cattle, still and silent, lined up listening to sweet early Spring birdsong.
En route to Nomansland bits of blown tree neatly fell into place across the road.
Later, I continued reading ‘The Brontës’ until, This evening we dined on basa fish cakes, cauliflower cheese, boiled potatoes, carrots, and peas, with which Jackie drank Diet Coke and I finished the Fleurie.
So many cute ponies and donkeys! Lovely photos, Derrick. 😊
Lovely photos of the larger horse family. Glad you got the picture of the donkey on Feast of the Ass Day.
Thank you very much, Pat. As soon as Jackie read this one out to me, I knew who had said it
Your donkey photos are adorable, Derrick
Thank you very much, Ivor
The donkeys win the beauty parade for me. Good shots.
Thank you very much, Tootlepedal
I love the donkey and pony pics!
Thank you very much, Chrissy
This is a beautiful line: “on Penn Common cattle, still and silent, lined up listening to sweet early Spring birdsong.” I like it very much.
I agree!
Thank you both very much. Jackie said the same thing even before she had seen your comments
Thank you so much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
I enjoyed all the closeups of those fabulous creatures. I’m glad you have nature all around you.

Those donkeys are adorable.
Thank you very much, Sue
I love those donkey faces! And pony #8, looks like a weary old man with a beard.
Thanks very much, Merril
Oh wow! If there’s anything I like as much as horses, it’s donkeys. Those pics are so precious. Thanks for posting.
Julie
Much appreciated, Julie
Praise be the calm!
Thank you very much, Rosaliene
I love the shaggy ones. My favorite picture is the shaggy pony with the mossy roots! 🙂
I thought of you when I made that one, JoAnna. Thank you very much.
A wonderful day. There is something attractive about those faces with the tufty beards. And the Basa sounds delicious too. Jackie can keep the Diet Coke.
Thanks very much, Amanda. I prefer water to that stuff.
How often do these old trees fall across the road? Often enough to cause injury?
Definitely. Every time it is windy. Elsewhere people have been killed, but not here in our time. Thanks very much, John
Such sweet, shaggy ponies! I know GP will love these photos.
Glad no one was under that big branch when it fell.
Thank you very much, Lavinia.
Oh, you know I love the donkeys! Those sweet faces! 🙂 Also, good to see the ponies and the cattle, too!
Always a joy to see the equine and the bovine! 🙂
Guess What?! Some of my fave friends have four legs. 🙂
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️
Thanks very much, Carolyn XX
I never think donkeys look very happy.

You’re most welcome, dear Derrick!
All our 4-legged friends are looking sharp in their winter coats!
They are. Thanks very much, GP
Wow! What fabulous photos, Derrick! The header is stunning!
Thank you so much, Eugi
You’re welcome, Derrick.
I am always stumped by the nonchalant look that the equids wear. After I witnessed a young boy being kicked viciously in the underbelly, who I heard succumbed to the injury, I have scarcely trusted them. They make a great picture in your post though. Ponies wear a lot better look and that too is confirmed in your pictures.
What a shock about the boy, Uma. We are warned not to touch or feed the ponies and reminded that they are wild. Thank you very much.
I saw a photo of a cat earlier and I thought they were the cutest things ever. Seeing these donkeys now, I’m beginning to second guess. Lovely photos John
Thank very much, Mimi
I love your four-legged friends!!
