A Close Look

This morning, I converted the following posts from Classic to Block edits:

For those who are wondering, the reason I have to do this is that anyone now clicking on the Classic edit pictures, perhaps to enlarge them, will access a message claiming that there is Nothing There.

On a bright, sunny, yet cool afternoon shared with various flying insects, I took a close look at the flowers in the garden.

Each image, including cherry blossom, bees on euphorbia, a damselfly on a leaf, camellias, magnolia Vulcan, primulas, honesty, daffodils, tulips, muscari, epimedium, wallflowers, cowslips, spirea, Japanese maple, and weeping birch catkins, is labelled in the gallery.

One tree that we inherited from our predecessors has never before produced more than one blossom in the ten years we have been here. Today it has a fine display. We think it is a plum.

This evening we all dined on succulent roast gammon; crisp roast potatoes; piquant cauliflower cheese; crunchy carrots; tender cabbage and cauliflower leaves, with which I drank The Second Fleet Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2021, Jackie abstained, and the young family all drank fruit juice.

  1. Very beautiful photos again, Derrick! By Block you must mean that you are using that block editor thing? I’ve never had to use it gladly!

    1. Thank you very much, John. The galleries are particularly useful for what I do – but it was a struggle to get the hang of it

  2. I’m impressed by your efforts (as always), Derrick. How do you get on with block editor? I find it laborious and fiddly – and the photo titles no longer appear when you hover over them (though that might be another issue). Anyway, I found the classic editor far easier to use.

    1. Thanks very much, Mike. I went over to Blocks when they kept telling us the Classic would go. I do find it smooth once I got over struggling with it.

  3. Thank you for being conscientious about updating your photos. The close ups of the flowers are exceptionally beautiful! I especially like the bees on the euphorbia and that the inherited tree that had never produced more than one blossom in ten years now has a fine display reminding us never to give up.

  4. Your garden is already a burst of colour – what a pleasure it must be to walk around it or to sit in the midst of such beauty. Enjoy what is left of the Easter weekend.

    1. Thank you so much, Anne. We had our first drinks on the patio yesterday evening. It was freezing. 🙂

  5. WordPress or is it Jetpack – is not my friend – even when I deleted another few years of posts – it still won’t let me put pictures in the body – although if I post the link from flickr in the comments – somehow a picture will post…
I’ve never been precious about posts, as no one is particularly interested via my family to know what I’ve been up to!!

  6. You had a busy day! The close-up photos are stunning. I also especially liked the the bees on the euphorbia, but I love spring flowers and flowering trees. How lovely that your maybe plum tree is blooming.
