Today Jackie drove me to and from New Milton for my trip to London to visit Luci and Wolf.
I travelled from Waterloo by the Northern Line Underground to Clapham South.
Luci met me at Costa Coffee opposite the station
and drove me to The Nightingale for lunch. This characterful Victorian pub still sports the etched windows of the period.
We both enjoyed fish, chips, and mushy peas. I drank Doom Bar, whilst Luci drank a pleasant non-alcoholic beer. I had no need for further sustenance this evening.
Giving Wolf time to complete his own lunch in the rather splendid care home that is Nightingale House, we visited him first in his well-appointed room, then for tea in the establishment’s cafe. The couple showed me Wolf’s photograph book containing top quality prints made by my friend’s son Simon.
I share one page with Wolf. Luci took this photograph c2009.
In the meantime Jackie produced a recipe for her Pork Paprika, as requested by our friend Jessie. I sent this on to the intended recipient.
Another good day with good people!!
Yes, thank you, GP
That is a lovely photograph of you and your friend Derrick – we don’t get to see so much of you, as you are usually on the other side of the camera! Another yummy Jackie recipe!! π
Many thanks, Pauline. Fortunately Luci is an excellent photographer.
It sounds like a lovely day!
The Nightingale looks charming–at least the exterior.
Thanks a lot, Merril. The pub looks pretty unchanged inside; we still have a few of those that haven’t been turned into smart gastropubs
When I was growing up, we were allowed to say no to one food. I chose peas. Peas are only good in vegetable soup, and that’s the truth. π
Thanks a lot, Johnna
Lovely photo of you and your friend, Derrick!Have a blessed start of a week!
Thanks very much, Sofia
How nice to visit old friends–what matters most loves to get done…
Yes, Cynthia. Thank you very much
There’s nothing better than getting together with old friends. Great photo of you two!
Many thanks, Jill
Great photos and a very nice recipe. I may have to try that soon…
Thanks a lot. Lisa. Bon appetit
Fish & Chips! For shame Derrick!
The best chish ‘n fips are in England, and you don’t say what sort of fish. My fondest memories of England are fish ‘n chips, and steak & kidney pud (not pie),
Piece of plaice, piece of skate and sixpenny worth of chips, Friday nights tea.
Those were the days; as I recall during the war too;
Bit of haddock?, Bit of cod? Now what was it Derrick?
Stomachless as I am, I reckon I could still tuck into a feast of fish ‘n chips; especially walking down Amesbury Road, in Dagenham, eating them from the newspaper and finishing the lot before I got home,
Just as I did long ago.
Wonderful dreams, Brian. It was a codpiece. Thanks a lot
Where do you get your shirts from Derrick? That is a very fine example. I am very tempted to discuss codpieces whilst talking of tailoring, but will content myself with saying it looks like a great day. π
Lovely day and wonderful pictures! Thanks for sharing with us
Many thanks, Lynn

Oh how lovely to see how Clapham has evolved and kept it’s face these 29 years since I moved away!
Thanks, Osyth
Love the photo!
Thanks very much, Dwight
