After lunch I watched the BBC presentation of the Six Nations rugby international between Scotland and Italy. The fact that I kept dozing off was probably more to do with my recovery process than the quality of the match.
We then had the wonderful surprise pleasure of a visit from our latest great niece, Ella Rose Milwain. Her lovely parents, Danni and Andy, came with her.
This sleepy little girl was ready for an immediate feed,
before being passed to her Grauntie Jackie
and on to her Gruncle Derrick (photos e-mailed by Danni).
After a happy couple of hours Ella woke up to play; first with her mother,
then with Jackie, before a last cuddle with Derrick and a journey back home with her parents.
Jackie took great delight in demonstrating the flexibility of the infant’s knees, just two weeks younger than my latest.
Jackie and I dined on flavoursome smoked haddock fish cakes; tasty ratatouille; creamy mashed potato; crunchy carrots, and tender runner beans.
I will now watch the Six Nations rugby match between England and Ireland, recorded from ITV’s earlier broadcast.
What a darling baby! Sweet little face.
Yes, indeed. Many thanks, Laurie
Your headline startled me for a moment. How did Derrick know? You see my granddaughter is also an Ella-rose. Although mine is 9, going on 20. Chris
🙂 Lovely coincidence, Chris. Incidentally, I think I’ve cracked getting comments on your posts
Such a precious.<3
Many thanks, Laleh
My pleasure ❤️
Grauntie and gruncle are two new identifiers that I shall now use with great pleasure at the earliest opportunity…….. Babies heads are among the nicest things in the world I think and also (I hope saying this doesn’t make me sound too much like Hannibal Lecter) they smell delicious too <3
Great comments, Pauline. I’m so pleased you liked the head picture, and the smell, and the terminology coined by other parents, Stephanie and John. Did you spot the fontanelle?
Yes I did <3
🙂
Yes! Grantie and Gruncle are here to stay! I am stealing. And, Pauline, I am a baby head sniffer, myself. Baby heads and puppy breath are among my favorite things to sniff.
Good to know Jodie! Baby head sniffers unite!!
🙂
Lovely
: )
Just love this line – “Her lovely parents, Danni and Andy, came with her” – Priceless!
🙂 Thanks very much, Andrew
Yes!
It struck me as funny that a 12 week old baby had to bring her parents along!
She does, however, have a reading age of 10 🙂
Many thanks to both of you, Andrew and Jodie
He has a way with words.
🙂
Such a sweetheart xx
Thanks very much, Melanie X
Awww–what delight! Ella Rose is a beauty, and I can see how she charmed you and Jackie, aka gruncle and grauntie. 🙂
Many thanks, Merril 🙂
Ella Rose to the occasion of the photoshoot with distinction and doll-like perfection.
I’m so pleased I included the second name – especially for you to play with, Leslie :). Thanks a lot
Lovely baby and your introduction of these new words Grauntie and Gruncle.
Thanks very much, Rupali. These were coined by Jackie’s nephew John and his wife Stephanie – parents of Billy and Max
Precious photos of family and baby.
Thanks very much, Flower
How adorable she is and I love the photo with Gruncle Derrick. 🙂
Thanks very much, Sylvia
She’s perfect!
She is rather. Many thanks, Leslie
Aw…what a special visit! She’s adorable, Derrick. Thanks for introducing us to sweet Ella.
Many thanks, Jill
Such a sweet baby, and she seems very comfortable in your arms:)

So lovely Derrick!!! For her and many kisses!!!!
…..A darling newcomer
To have and to hold–
Her smiles are more precious
Than silver or gold…..
So cherish this time
Of miraculous things–
The excitement and wonder
That a new baby brings.

Many thanks, Efi. I trust Danni and Andy will read this.
Life is beautiful, and a newborn infant is the purest specimen of Creation, flexible knees and all. I am happy for the parents, grand aunt and grand uncle.
Thanks very much, Uma. Quite so
Ella Rose is so beautiful and so precious!
I’m glad you got to spend some time with her!
Congrats to all of you! All of you are fortunate to have her in your lives!
HUGS!!! 🙂
Thanks very much, Carolyn. It was a 40 minute drive for them and the first time they had made such a trip, so we were honoured. X
Oh, SUCH an honor. That’s a big trip for such a tiny one and her new parents. You guys are very loved.
We are, indeed. Danni is like another daughter.
Oh, that’s wonderful. They are a beautiful little family.
Do you think Ella is going to have red hair or is it just the light?
We have had the same discussion. Jackie opts for the light. However, Danni’s brother and both her grandfathers have/had red hair. Thanks a lot, John
Meeting new life is such a joy, thank you for sharing her with us.
Thanks very much. Sue. What will she know that we could never dream of?
It’s hard to imagine more than is already here, but look how far we’ve come in our lifetime. Whatever her future I wish her well.
Thanks again. My mother, and all the rest of her primary school mates were led into the Manchester playground to watch the marvel that was the R101 – She is still with us
Wow! That must have been something! 1929, and my own mother, no longer with us, would have been eight years old!
What cute photos. Thanks for sharing. The rugby has been great this weekend.
Thank very much, Alex. Especially the last game 🙂
A lovely addition to your handsome family!
Thanks very much, GP
Lovely heartwarming photos.
Many thanks, Dad
She’s very sweet.
Thank you very much, Rabirius
What a cutie!
Thanks very much, Sheree
Such a precious little one! <3 Hey you, keep those toes of that new knee leg pointed toward the ceiling! That's what they always told me. 😉
🙂 X Thanks a lot, Julie
Your family has the cutest babies, ever! So happy for the whole family for Ellie Rose’s healthy birth and sweet visit with you and Jackie! ❤️ ? xo
Many thanks, Robin. Good to see you. X
Oh, she is so precious. Adorable pictures and I am glad you are recovering well.
Thanks very much, Bridget
What an adorable small human. 😀
🙂 Many thanks, Widders
Grunkle and Grantie! LOL, I’ve never heard that before and it’s perfect 😀 I should think that was the lovely day. Ella Rose sure is a tiny girl yet both you and Jackie look at ease with her. I tend to get a bit nervous with such itty bitty babies. Did I ever mention what a klutz I am? Amazing to watch the family tree grow xB
Very many thanks, B. From the age of 14 months in 1943 there has never been a time in my life when there has not been a baby around 🙂
What a beautiful child. A new beginning. Love
Many thanks, Micheline X
Oh, beautiful post, Derrick. Ella Rose is just precious. Do thank her parents for letting you share. I am still smiling.
Will do, Jodie. Many thanks
Oh, and that NAME! Love it.
Excellent. Thanks very much, Jodie
: )
Aww…so sweet she is… <3 <3 Lovely pictures, Derrick.
Many thanks, Maniparna
That baby on a bottle at 12 days? Thats a shame,
The War Office likes me to make her a smoked haddock or cod kedgeree; I could serve it up to her every day. Me? I can’t stand the smell of it! L(
Thanks very much, Brian
Precious baby! Love those sweet wrinkles 🙂
Many thanks, Inese. They are classic, aren’t they?
They are <3
