Highly Recommended

As we gradually return items to our sitting room we faced a dilemma that Nick has set us.

How on earth can we bang nails and hooks for pictures into his sublime walls? We certainly won’t being doing that for some time yet.

Nick Hayter, Painter and Decorator, is to be highly recommended for his skill, his attention to detail, his tidiness, his punctuality, his reliability, and his pleasant company. He charges by the hour and works hard and fast throughout every one.

Of all the out-of-season blooms our garden currently enjoys perhaps this gladiolus is the most extraordinary.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s flavoursome savoury rice topped by a large fluffy omelette, accompanying prawns of three different preparations, namely tempura, spicy, and salt and pepper. The Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Cotes du Rhone Villages.

  1. The wall color of your sitting room is the same as ours, Derrick, but I can’t live without paintings on the walls, so we have had to violate the pristine surfaces at some point. Your floor is also the exact copy of ours. Great minds…
I admire the way your ceiling came out. Altogether, the house looks lovely, spacious, airy, and full of light. I wish you many more years of enjoying it in good health.
The little brave gladiolus obviously hasn’t gotten the message about the change of seasons.

  2. Nick Hayter, Painter and Decorator – what a wonderful reference that is! The room is gorgeous! Love the blue and the peach and the white together. And everything looks pristine, as you say. It’s always good to wait a while and see where you really want things to be hanging, so that can be a deliberate process. Meanwhile, enjoy the spacious, lovely new area that you have.
So glad it all got done before you were shut down. We are on the verge, as well, I think. And I am fine with it. If we can’t behave ourselves, I am happy to have someone make us behave. (I’m not going out to bars maskless,so I’m not upset with our new regulations.

    1. Thanks very much for all this, Jodie. I’m pleased you like the colour scheme and agree entirely with your second para. Over here we are not totally shut down – it is still possible for people to work in other people’s homes if they can’t work at home. Everything else except schools, university, and colleges, is though.

  3. I love the colors, especially the blue! I can’t have bare walls for more than a day or two. When we had our renovations we did our own indoor painting. It was hard at first to put in those first nails and hooks, but once the pictures were up, it was okay.

  4. The room is looking oh-so-inviting. Perfect for the upcoming winter. I particularly like the blue&white combination and the way the armchair upholstery and floor rug tie everything together.

  5. The room looks absolutely beautiful, Derrick. We haven’t put any picture hooks into our now two year old wallpaper, so it may well be some time before you do. I suppose it’s a normal human reaction not to want to damage something the craftsman has tried so hard to produce.

  6. YAY, Nick!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Everything looks so lovely…and such a warm, cozy, comfy, welcoming room!
Oh, do add your artwork and photos to the walls as soon as you can…that will just make that beautiful room even more beautiful! ๐Ÿ™‚
I love blue rooms and accents of blue in other rooms. Our bedroom is a delight of several shades of blue. ๐Ÿ™‚ So peaceful! ๐Ÿ™‚
The gorgeous Glad makes me glad! ๐Ÿ™‚ I read years ago that their name comes from the Latin word โ€œgladiusโ€, for sword…because of their shape. And in Rome, some gladiators wore gladiolus corms around their necks during battles to help them win and protect them from death. To this day the gladiolus flower meaning is the symbol for strength and integrity. ๐Ÿ™‚

PS…Fluffy omelettes are the bestest! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. That would be a dilemma. Command strips is what others have suggested for me but when I used them they pulled the paint off the walls. Our house has wood panels so I just use nails.

  8. “Nee, zou ik ook niet doen, maar die blauwe muur met die blauwe gordijnen: GEWELDIG + ADEM BENEMEND! Zรณ mooi en zรณ ontzettend chique!!!
De boekenkast moet ook eventjes wachten … Maar, de televisie … Jullie kijken nauwelijks tv? Ik bestudeer het nog even … Zรณ chique: in oud Engelse stijl … , met een geweldig mooie tuin …
    Prachtig! Ja, prachtig! Prachtig-prachtig: PRACHTIG MOOI!” Elfriede * http://www.friedabblog.wordpress.com * Amsterdam * zaterdag 14 november 2020, 16.15 uur … Hollandse Wintertijd … *
