The usual division of labour applied to garden maintenance this searingly hot day, although Flo had worked until it was too long after dark to see, finishing the last of the compost and plants; and filling our score of watering cans.
As soon as I had prised my nostrils from the scented rose bushes, had a long sit down and a cold drink of water, I staggered round the garden with my camera.
Then I sunk my nose into the bookishly scented ‘Woman in White’ by Wilkie Collins.
Becky joined us this evening and we all dined on pizza, prawns, and salad with which Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I finished the Barolo. The others abstained. Strawberries and cream were to follow.

I don’t remember a great deal about “Woman in White” other than to say that it was really good and well worth reading. I have a vague feeling that it was based on a real incident, although I’m not 100% sure about that.

My strawberries have gone into winter mode and strawberries from the local market are not local which is reflected in the cost. At just under $10 per 200gm punnet, I’ll wait until they’re back in season.

Mum in a Million was a good choice for a header photo. Joey looks full of energy. It was hot here today, too with a high of 97 followed by a rain shower and steam. Jackie certainly has stamina.
You garden is an intense world of scents, shades and colours, tended by caring hands of Jackie and her lieutenants. I am sure the joys offered by it are commensurate with the contribution of labour.

Thanks very much, Brian. We have a morning once or twice a month from a gardener. This is essential now that my knees prevent me from doing much. I am only pleased they didn’t deteriorate until we had done all the heavy work at the beginning.
Glad you can get help from a gardener. Sorry about your knees. Kinda critical for gardening right? I hope at least it does stop you form walking, that would be a bummer. A friend of my mine, my age, is quite tall and has had knee problems for a while. Hard for him to walk an entire blocks. But he has found that he can ride a bicycle even for a long time. Joints work differently for anyone, but you might try it?

Thanks very much, Brian. I have had replacements to both knees and one hip. If I ever fell off a bike I wouldn’t be able to get up. I can still walk for half an hour or so.
I see. No a bike is not a good idea… ? One of our daughters went skiing recently (winter ski) and I thought that it would be nice to get back up on skis. But a fall? No way.
Well, half an hour is not bad. Takes you around the block and back… ?
